    Science of the Domestic Kind

Has anyone used or indeed got a steam function oven? I must make my mind up and choose something. My friend has just bought one but as yet she hasn't used the steam function. Common sense tells me that as I've managed this long without, I really don't need one, but I love a gadget, oh how I love a gadget..A bit of inside info would help.

GM, I haven't even heard of this, let alone got one!
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along later .

Grauntie, i have heard of them, but i don't know anyone who has one.
Maybe google steam oven reviews, and see if that helps you decide.

Found a bit of a discussion about them here.

We are getting a new kitchen and DH has got a bee in his bonnet about getting a steam oven. He wants that two-ovens-next-to-each-other look that's all...

Well we did consider it when we renewed ours last year but decided we really didn't need it , how often would we use this function ? Not a lot we expected , but would love to know how good they are so if you do decide to get one I hope you enlighten us all 😊

I know someone who has got one. I don't know how much she uses it, but there is a downside when you open it if you wear glasses - the steam billows out and you can't see. I think my friend uses hers for certain things and finds it good.

Especially like the easy clean feature! Sounds like my kind of cooker! Never heard of it before but sounds good but then I do love gadgets. Would probably give my OH nightmares though!

I like gadgets up to a point, but my very basic gas cooker suits me fine. The only problem comes when I'm cooking for a crowd and need 2 ovens, but have only got one, and the grill doesn't cook evenly.

I saw my friend with the steam oven tonight and she STILL hasn't used it. 😳 We are going to John Lewis in Chelmsford tomorrow so I will find an assistant to assist me.πŸ˜‰

GM - good luck with your shopping! At this time of the year most people are thinking about buying a roasting tin for the turkey, but you are thinking about the whole flippin' oven!!! Have fun.

The deed is done! I decided not to listen to the gadget demon in my head. Did you know you can get ovens that tell you how to cook? This will cost another three hundred quid.😳 The very nice young man did say he thought I probably could cook anywayπŸ™„.

GM - I think you've listened to the voice of reason! But I'm intrigued about the bossy oven!

When will it arrive? I presume it's for your new house not the rented one you're living in.
