Totday's the day! Best of luck, Nana, although to be honest luck shouldn't play a part - you have created amazing pieces that deserve recognition. xx

First ( & only adult prize) is Β£250. I caught a glimpse of some entries & one painting is like a foto. There's artwork so much better than mine. The museum/gallery tend to favour traditional work. I have confidence in my work but boy there are some fabulous artists out there.

I can always hope.🀞Thanks for your good wishes. Just waiting for the stamped addressed envelope now to come with the results.

Sounds like they need to update the judging panel Nana.

Grauntie - I agree. Nana - have faith in your work - it's original and exciting. To be honest, judging panels are often very staid in their choices. There are lots of pictures about that look like photos, but I've never seen a stitched baby scan before - or a rust painting.

It's all very subjective, I know, but to produce something different and original is true creativity. I've got thousands of technically good photos, but very few I'd want to show to anybody because they've been done before by millions of people. The ones I'd rescue from a burning building are the odd few that are 'different' for various reasons.

Nana - does the judging panel publish its criteria for judging?

As far as I know the panel is different every year. We never know who they are. There's one constant one tho & he used to teach life drawing (nude models) at College & is in charge of the museum/art gallery. There is no criteria only the work has to have been done within the last 2yrs. You can only enter 3 works. That's it.

This is one of the hardest things really that the work isn't categorised. E.g how can a stitched piece compete with a 10' x 10' oil painting or a sculpture that stands 6' tall.

I got it wrong & judging has been today. I don't enter to win but just to keep my name out there in the public eye. Also to 'keep my hand in'.πŸ˜‰

Nana - I wonder why the judging panel is so secretive. You're right, you can't use the same criteria for such different pieces of art. At least with photography they're all photographs!

                        Keeping fingers crossed for you.

It makes for an interesting and varied exhibition, but it would be nice if they awarded a Best in Class, even if it was just a rosette, and then an overall winner - a bit like Crufts.

Got my letter today. Only one accepted out of the three. Neither one of those I put on here. It was a larger rust dye piece that was accepted. I must be loosing my touch.πŸ™
