Cats drinking from glasses

    Cats drinking from glasses

This is far more common than you may imagine!
Many people can't leave a glass of water within reach of cats, or their head goes in. Not all cats do this, but some do. They will bypass their water dish to find a glass, left by an unsuspecting person!

One of my cats has done this for years. Most annoying if you have a glass of water on the coffee table, and the next thing you notice is her head in the glass and you have to get another glass of water. In short tumblers she puts her head in, with tall narrow glasses she puts her paw in and licks off the droplets.

She loves to come into the bedroom in the morning, jump onto my bedside table and drink any water I have left in my tumbler . I then realised that she was splashing, and I have my Kindle on there and sometimes my phone as well
I then began each morning to put the glass on the window sill for her to finish. If I had drunk all the water during the night she would look disdainfully at it. I then had to refill it from the bathroom tap. Now we keep a permanent tumbler on the bedroom window sill! In the morning I pour into it from my glass any remaining water. If there is none, or not much, I add to it from the bathroom

This has been going on for months. This morning both the other cats had a drink from the glass. I refuse to have 3 tumblers lined up on the windowsill, so they will have to share!

(This is not her on the photo!)

Buzz does this he does it with cold tea too ,
You have to watch him and sometimes if I'm having a drink when I'm down there he will pull my hand down that I have the glass in he uses his paw too then shakes it all over ,
Sometimes eats his food with his paw , I wonder why they do that ? but its funny to watch
Im not fat just 6ft too small

Gem, it’s a good job you don’t go to bed with a glass of gin and tonic. 😜😜😜

Our cat would only drink water from the bath tap. She would sit in the bath, mewing, until you turned the tap on, just a dribble, then would drink. If the plug was in she would wait until there was a llittle puddle then drink that. She was a lovely cat and I do miss her 😢

When I feed our neighbours cats I have to fill a pint glass with water, they won’t drink out of a cat bowl

Our neighbours have one of those water fountain thingies for their 3 cats so the can drink from still or running water.

My cat does this and now I have decided to refill a bottle to take with me to bed or watching tv. She is not happy.

When we had our cat, she never drank from a glass.
Mind you, now i think about we never had a glass of water out.
She would drink it from the kitchen tap, which i know a lot of other cats do.

Oliver will drink from my glass by the bed given the chance he laps the water from his fat paw as his rather large head does not fit into the top of the glass he is so huge.
In fact he will dip his paws into anything for a taster of whats on offer he has become so naughty doing this I can't even allow anything out on the work surfaces to cool after coming out of the oven or being defrosted, this young man has certainly taken over ruling this household hubby and I are constantly at his beck and call and boy oh boy does he know it !! the thing is he is so adorable and I can't help myself I have never felt like this about a cat before in my whole life.I am at your service Oliver.

I believe they don't like a bowl because they can see their reflection in the water it and think it is another cat. Don't know if this is true

My tiny dog Tilly will try and get to both your tea and coffee if you don't watch her like a hawk.

LG - you've got to give her full marks for trying, though!

Eva, being a dog, will drink out of anything, but she always laps against the far side of the bowl, causing a mini tsumani in the kitchen!

Our dog loves to drink from his bowl of cold water outside & not from his bowl in the kitchen. Takes after me for that...cold water, not the drinking outside bit.😂
