    Recipe or pot luck?

I was just finishing off the chilli (which is going to blow his head off!) and added a few bits and pieces, a big splodge of Merlot that is too old for drinking and which I bought for a moussaka last week as I didn't want to open a good bottle, a couple of past their best tomatoes smashed up, some odd spring onions etc. Most of the time when I cook I don't use a recipe (unless I have seen one that takes my eye), I am a kind of chuck it in sort of girl. I do roughly measure for cakes and baking.

Do you completely follow a recipe meticulously or are you also a chuck it in type of girl???

Definately the latter. Some things I cook, such as chicken cacciatore, I had a recipe for once, but do it from memory now. Most recipes I just chuck stuff in.
My OH cannot do this. She needs either a recipe, or ready made sauce. She cannot cook creatively

I know the recipes for simple sponge cakes and pasrty. Any other cakes I would follow a recipe however.

My husband will look at recipes constantly and decide he is going to cook something. He will ask me to get the ingredients and then completely disregard the recipe and do what he thinks and then complain when it hasn't turned out right.

I never follow a recipe. Sometimes I will see a recipe and think oooo that sounds/looks nice, and think I will try it.
Alas, I never get round to trying it.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I don't have recipes for things I make a lot but I always have to weight cake and pudding ingredients.

I'm a let's-see-what-is-in-the-fridge and chuck it in girl, too, Zizi. I do weigh ingredients for bread, cakes and pastry just to get the proportions right, but not following a proper recipe.

Occasionally I'll try something new and might start with a recipe but then find I haven't got all the ingredients so chuck something else in instead. Tonight I used an online recipe to use up a marrow someone on the allotments had given me and had to make several changes! Still, it tasted ok.

The only trouble is, when I come up with something extra nice I can't do it again because I've forgotten how to.
