I made my mincemeat yesterday, and it has just finished the 3 hours in the oven. It smells lovely

It was well worth making, Plant. It's a world away from shop-bought mincemeat.

LG - I've got an unopened jar left over from the batch I made before Christmas - I just assumed it would keep like jam or chutney.

I had a jar made last year which I used up this Christmas. I also have a jar left which I will use next Christmas. I find it has thickened a bit so I add some orange juice and or brandy.

Ah, that's worth knowing Plant. Like Libra I wasn't sure how long it would last.

LOL - my OH added twice the amount of brandy when he made ours. Next Christmas could be very merry indeed if we add more.

I've been making mincemeat (Delia's) for the past few years and it spoils you for the shop versions! First time I made pickle I nearly threw it all away as I didn't know it shouldn't be eaten straight away. Luckily someone on another forum put me straight!

I've been using ready made puff pastry but only the top few layers are crisp! Any ideas on where I am going wrong?

Just bumping this up for myself really! It went well last year, so I intend to make this again this year.

I've made Delia's puds & mincemeat in the past. I seem to remember they last a few years.Luckily I made the Christmas cakes & puds early October. They're in airtight containers on top of the cupboards in the utility. When I'm feeling a bit better I'll make a ''alcohol free' Christmas cake for DD2 as she's due to have her baby in February. I'll also use some of the remaining ingredients to make the mincemeat. Wish I liked it😊
