Last night a group of close friends went out for a meal. There are 8 of us, and we always eat out to celebrate each others birthdays, and last year we all went away to Northumberland to celebrate OHs and my 60th birthdays.
Last night was one of those birthday meals. We got a taxi into town and had a drink in a nice quiet pub we have been to before, then onto the restaurant.
This was a small Italian restaurant that none of us had been to before, recommended to the birthday girl by a work colleague. It was busy, packed and noisy. Not with music, buy talk!! Tables were quite close together which increased the noise. All the staff were Italian and talked a lot, loudly, in Italian. There was an Italian football match on the flat screen TV on the wall. Luckily the volume was down but the excited waiters made plenty of noise at certain times when watching it as they passed!
All in all I enjoyed the meal. The food was good, the staff really lovely, the price not too bad. It was hard to chat to anyone not next to or opposite me however.
We left there and as it was just after 10, we decided to go for drink before going for taxis home. Not back to the nice quiet pub, but to somewhere I have only been to once before and hated that time! Loud music and nowhere to sit. My 2 pet hates!! If I am out with friends I want to actually talk to them, and I do like a seat especially at the end of a night out! A couple of seats became available and I sat down . One of our friends, the youngest who is only 50, sat down too, to chat to me. The others remain standing even when 3 or 4 more seats became available. Sometimes I feel I am on a different planet to others!!
I did enjoy my night, but came home with a sore throat from talking too loudly to my friends!
