I'm just watching a bit of "Britain's Fat Fight with Hugh Fearnely-Whittingstall" (sp?) - it's quite a good motivator to see people taking a long hard look at what and how they eat. (BBC One)"Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "

Only just seen this thread, it was started while i was away.
After being diagnosed with high blood pressure this week,it's been a bit of a wake up call.
I won't give up everything,but i will cut down on unhealthy foods.Sometimes I forget to like posts,but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I've lost 2 lbs! Not a lot I know, but better than putting it on. It's been a funny week food-wise, but I realise I have skipped breakfast a couple of times, and haven't fancied my favourite cheese sandwich at lunch time. I know cheese is really fattening, but normally I love it, and I'm sure this cheese-free phase won't last. Still, 2 lbs is 2 lbs!"Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "

Well I have just finished a Weight Management class at our local hospital. Four sessions where I missed wk 2 (funeral day) & part of wk4 (skin appointment). To be honest the best thing I got from it was smaller portions & to make small changes...change unhealthy foods for healthy + exercise. The latter I can't do but will try the rest of it.
I'll try to catch up on tv programme Daisy & well done on your weight loss. I ignored the goal weight when at WW's as my body was happy at 10st. Always wise to listen to your body I say.
Good luck everyone.Last edited by Nana; 28-04-2018, 10:30 PM."Good friends help you to find important things when you have lost them....your smile, your hope, and your courage."

Nana - I think that's a good approach - pick out the ideas that you know will work for you. I agree about the target weight thing - you know what weight you feel comfortable at. It's easier to make small changes than try to reorganise your whole way of eating.
Clover - my weight varies, too. I weigh myself every day (I know people say you shouldn't, but I do!) and I can vary plus or minus 2 or 3 lbs from day to day. So I don't consider I've lost any weight until the middle figure has come down for most of a week. It's a bit hit and miss but I would find it demoralising to weigh myself once a week on what might be a 'heavy' day! I need to see progress to stay motivated."Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "

Well done Daisy
Nana, I ignored the WW target weight too. It's just a number and one weight doesn't suit all! I was about 10 or 12 pounds above it and everyone started to tell me not to lose more, and I knew myself it wouldn't be right to lose any more - and I never would have got there!
I really need to get on with it. I felt so overweight and out of condition this weekend. Edinburgh is so hilly, and my 3 DDs slim.
Obesity is really being highlighted nowadays, as smoking has (rightly) been for a long time, as a big health risk.
Rather like giving up smoking, or beating alcohol and drug addictions, only the person themselves can do it. I have more to say on this.

I went 'L for leather' when I started WW's at one time. I threw out everything that wasn't considered good & re-stocked fridge, freezer & cupboards with WW's guidelines. I bought their books etc & followed it to the letter. I was 2lb off their target weight for me & I went to meetings religiously for a month at this weight to try to loose those pounds.
That is when I realised that my body was happy at that weight. I left without reaching target but 3st lighter. This is why I'm trying a different approach. I've done WW's about three times & SW once. Everytime I loose weight it comes back on again, so I'll try the way I've said. Gem, you're right, Edinburgh is hilly.
I'll look forward to hearing how you all get along. I gave up 20 cigarettes a day about 30yrs ago....cold turkey, so I know I have the will power.Last edited by Nana; 29-04-2018, 10:30 PM."Good friends help you to find important things when you have lost them....your smile, your hope, and your courage."

granma2aj - I think a Fit Bit watch is very good for keeping track of things. I had one a couple of years ago but it got broken eventually and I never replaced it. But it was useful and encouraged me to walk more. Good luck with yours, I'd be interested to know how you get on with it.

My weight goes up at the weekends and then down, if I am good, in the week. I weigh myself every day if I am home, I prefer to monitor it that way otherwise it creeps up on me.
Clover, you are one of the lucky ones, I had a friend like that. What is life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare
