    GransRus Healthy Weight Clinic!

We won't call it a slimming club

This is the place to talk to other members who are trying to lose weight and keep fit, and support each other.
We can share our losses (and gains!) and how we are doing.
No one needs to tell us their actual weight, of course unless they want to!
We can also share any tips that work for us.

I need this place and know others probably do too.

I need it too, Gem. The fact that I'm typing this with a glass of wine at my side says it all!!!

On another thread I mentioned I needed a mantra and Plant suggested -

NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING SLIM

I used this one last time I dieted seriously (about 13 years ago) and lost 2 stones.

The warm sunny weather helps as well. I think I have to learn the delights of feeling just a tiny bit hungry to give me a further push.

    Any tips would be welcome.

Many years ago when I went to Weight Watchers, our leader had many sayings, including that one Daisy She would leave us with one at the end of each session.

These two stick in my mind as well.
Kitchen Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers and A Glass Of Wine is Just a Cream Cake In Disguise

I don't drink much at all, but I know others who would refuse a pudding in a rather saintly manner, whilst drinking almost a botle of wine, or a couple of pints!

Gem - I hadn't heard the wine is a cream cake in disguise before! But I tell myself it's not so bad if you have one glass of wine which you really enjoy and skip the cream cake itself!

I really need this thread as you all know I joined SW last November and lost 1st 8lbs come beginning of March I then decided in my wisdom that I didn't need to go to the classes anymore as I had cracked the programme and I could do it on my own WRONG since beginning of March 6lbs have crept back on even though I am very careful what I am eating I feel I need the support of a class so will be back at the class again next week.

I have been on and off a Weight Watchers member for a long time and I lost 2 st. two years ago and am fighting to keep it off. I am not at what they would call my goal weight, I am still a stone above that but I am satisfied. My weight undressed is 10st.8lbs, goes up at the weekend and down in the week. As most of you know my family are very sociable and like a glass of wine. I have a g&t with my GD on a Friday evening and share a bottle of Prosecco with the family most Sats. I also like and have my brandy nightcap but I try not to drink wine in the week. My meals consist mainly of chicken and fish plus lots of veg. no potatoes, pasta, rice but I do eat lentils. I don't drink soft drinks, certainly not coke even low cal. Of course I only have myself to cater for so I don't have choc. biscuits etc. to tempt me. If I go out for a meal and indulge I try to eat only soup the next day and that will be home-made. It isn't easy sometimes.

Plant, it may not be easy (and I know it isn't) but you are an inspiration to us all. I thought you looked very fit and well at our meet in Birmingham last September.

I think sometimes goal weights are calculated according to a formula - BMI or similar - and don't take into account age and natural changes to metabolism and fat storage. I would have thought 9st 8 lbs would be a bit too low for your height and build. Anyway, you're doing really well.

I think goal weights can be misleading! There's no way I'd look good at my goal weight now. I might have done in my earlier years but I'd just look scraggy now. I know I'm overweight and need to get back to exercising, but as long as my clothes fit and I'm well, I'm quite happy!

I alternate between thinking I'm lucky to be so well at my age, so I shouldn't worry, but I've got quite a few clothes that would be more comfortable and look better if I lost some weight.

I agree WG. Goal weights are to be taken with a large pinch of salt.

I have gone beyond being too concerned about how I look (regarding weight) and am much more concerned about the health aspects of being overweight.

Plant, when you are approaching your 80th birthday, you should be allowed a glass of wine in the evening if you want one, to my mind! I don't like to think of you only having soup the next day if you have eaten out the night before!
I think you look fine, and unless your health is at risk, it seems sad to deny yourself pleasure.

I know if I'm slimmer I feel better. I have more energy and it's lovely when you open the wardrobe door and know everything there will fit! At the moment I go through discarding clothes because I know they will be tight. Of course I don't get rid of them, I always think I'll slim into them - well it's time I did.

This thread is good, because I can come here and get motivated.

It will keep the topic in our minds at least Daisy!

Daisy when I lost weight and could get into clothes I hadn't been able to, they didn't look right anymore, styles had changed, wide shoulders for a start so I have had an expensive time buying new tops and trousers so I can't afford to put back the inches.

Plant - that's true, styles do change and what looked ok a couple of years ago suddenly looks very outdated. But a good excuse to buy new.

this lovely hot weather helps - I don't feel much like eating. Although I fancy sitting down tonight in the garden with a glass of wine.

I lost quite a few pounds when DH was unwell, don’t recommend that though! I am going to try and keep it off as I do feel better for it. On the other hand, DH is trying to regain a bit of weight as he lost over a stone. He’s tall and slim anyway so looked a bit gaunt bit has put a bit back on and looks better. A drastic diet though 🤔
