    Easy Peelers

Does anybody else find all the varieties of 'little oranges' confusing?

What I like best are Satsumas, but the supermarkets are often full of those nets labelled "Easy Peelers" and don't give a variety. Satsumas are really easy to peel - unlike some of them - and are sweet enough not to make me pull a 'sour-lemon' face. Can anyone shed light on what's what?

OH eats them by the dozen! He says the easy peelers he buys from Waitrose are generally Clementines. Not always very sweet though.

Oma - I never thought of smelling them, even though I smell most fruit! I agree you can smell sweetness. I can smell sugar in tea.

Don’t know about easy peelers but I can smell sugar in tea and tea without sugar and I don’t drink it ! I do find it difficult to buy little oranges like tangerines I don’t know which has pips and which doesn’t , I hate the darned pips

I don't eat oranges,or much fresh fruit anyway.
Hubby eats satsumas, because you don't get pips in them.

A lady that used to work on the fruit and veg in Asda, once told me,
satsumas start with and end with an s like seedless does.
That's how always remember satsumas are seedless.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Nanto - that's interesting. At least I know which are seedless now. I just wish they would put the name of the fruit on the packaging or labelling. The thing I look for first of all is are they easy to peel - come so called 'easy peelers' are like prising the fluffy stuff off tennis balls!

The 'easy peelers' I bought in Marks are anything but! And they're quite sharp too! Shan't be buying them again. I'm not a great orange fan, but every so often I take a notion for one, but this lot have certainly put me off for a while!

WG - it's experiences like that that have made me ask the question! Years ago Satsumas were lovely - easy to peel and sweet to eat. When the boys were at home we used to buy them by the tray full from our local greengrocer and they were delicious. I still love them, but there have been so many imposters just like your M&S ones. I bet yours looked really delicious but didn't live up to their good looks!

We only used to have tangerines at Christmas when I was a child. I am a lazy fruit eater. Bananas and easy peelers are my main effort at 5 a day!
