Is Sunday dinner on a decline?
Back when the family was young and OH worked we had a Sunday dinner every Sunday. My dear dad even used to pop over to have lunch with us , but now that he has passed away and the children have all left home I don't always bother.
Now that OH has had to change his diet a little we hardly ever have that sort of meal at all. I miss the meal but not all the cooking and clearing up after it.
This Sunday we will be having pasta , hasn't got the same kind of ring about it has it ? 😔

I suppose it depends where in the Country you live whether you call it Dinner or Lunch ! We still have traditional Roast 'meal' in Winter it is usually lunchtime i.e. midday in the Summer it could be Dinnertime ie evening or sometime Summer it will be a lunch bbq. Mostly both our sons, DILs and gs share this meal with us, and I love it! Sometimes we have it alone but I will still do a roast with all the trimmings.

We used to have a roast most Sundays and the time would depend on what we were doing that day. Don't always have one now that it is just the two of us - quite often go out for lunch or have something quick and easy.

Its still on the menu at our house OH loves a roast the beef joint has got smaller both because of price and there being only the 2 of us usually, I find it easy to do if we eat about 2/2.30 I can take my time, but must admit have been known to give it a miss in the hot summer days we always have our Yorkshire puddings first and then lunch I don't like pork and OH prefers not to have lamb or chicken doesn't leave me much choice. Always enjoy a beef sandwich on Monday

Up till about 3 yrs ago we always had Sunday lunch about 12.30 with all the family full roast and trimmings, then between DS working shifts and OH taking ill it all went out of the window . now we maybe have a roast mid week just the two of us or we go out with DD and family and friends for Sunday lunch . I like to get all around the table but its not so easy now they all have things to do places to go . To be honest I don't think I know anyone that does a Sunday roast now , such a shame isn't it

No we don't have one for the two of us although daughter and SIL always do a roast, as we did for so many years! Rather pleased that we don't as honestly if we felt like one there are so many good places around which do a full roast for around £8.00 and you know I am thankful as without all the preparation, cooking and washing up my life is a lot easier

We still have a Roast evening meal every Sunday up to when I had my op on wrist last April we used to have the whole family round every Sunday. I also do a roast on a Tuesday and Thursday evening. I'm not one for pasta of chips so it's a lot easier doing a meat and veg meal.

I love roast dinners.Don't always do one on a Sunday, but we always have one on at least one day of the week.If we go out for a meal, hubby always says he will have a carvery, but always says roast meal isn't his favourite.Work that one out.

Hubby makes the best roast dinner ever he is a superb cook and he loves a roast but even when we go out for Sunday lunch he wont have the carvery he always ops for fish and chips or something else . I must admit no one can make a roast like he does but its nice to go out for one too

A slap up roast tends to be more of a celebratory meal for us these days. We do have a good local pub that does a pretty good roast and might have one there sometimes but it is never the same as one cooked at home.
We had one on my son's 40th birthday in January. He was not here of course since he lives in NZ but we celebrated it anyway. I opened a bottle of bubbly and cooked a large chicken with all the trimmings and had an indulgent pudding too. He however spent the day doing DIY so I think we got the better deal. When the kids were small we had a roast most Sundays and both DH's Mum and mine did a good roast every Sunday. I suppose it is what you get used to really. I am happy having pasta or curry or anything else on a Sunday now though. My Dad used to say that these are not proper food

I love a roast,but we don't often as their is just the two of us.Next Sunday we have Matt and Jay coming for Sunday roast and I'm looking forward to putting on a spread,we will have roast lamb as it's hubs and Matt's favourite.I am making Dorset apple cake for dessert.I have discovered how to do lovely roast potatoes without all the fat or oil,and they are scrummy.

Always had a Sunday roast when OH was alive, don't bother for myself but often get invited to DD's or DS's. DD is cooking a roast today, she is expecting the eldest GS's back for lunch.
