    Mum's 90th!

My mum will be 90 next month.
After some discussion with her, I discovered what she would like. A family afternoon tea (at lunch time) at The Hilton hotel. I took her there for her birthday a couple of years ago and she loved it.
So, we have booked it for 1pm on her birthday. She wants her dearest friend (they met aged 7!) to come, and also my auntie, Dad's sister. This makes me happy as I wasn't sure she would ask auntie, but she wants to.
I have contacted mum's friend's daughter, as her friend is quite immobile now and I am hoping her DD will be able to drop her off , help her in and come back for her.

Fingers crossed all goes according to plan.

DD3 of course won't be there, but we can set up a chat between her and mum. I will ask the hotel if I can bring a balloon or two. I think mum would prefer a more discreet Happy Birthday or Congratulation on the balloons rather than 90

Gem - she's made a good choice, and I'm so glad your auntie is on the guest list.

Awww how lovely. Will you be organising it yourself Gem or will it be a joint family effort? I found getting a 90yr old mum's gift challenging to say the least. Good luck with that one😉🤣

Something for your Mum to look forward to Gem. As she chose it herself and has done it before she is bound to enjoy it.

                Yes, hopefully Clover

My auntie and my mum's friend can both come, and my ex OH says he will try to pop in during it and surprise her, so plans are going well

You've got a lovely family, Gem. Your mum is a lucky lady.

                          The day went very well!

Mum had many cards, flowers and presents. I also took her a foil helium balloon, as I do for each GC on their birthdays. She was very happy with this as she has never had one before.
The afternoon tea was splendid, the staff very attentive and made mum feel special. DD2 had arranged the cake, which she gave to the staff. The sous chef put in on a large silver board, decorated it around with strawberries and chocolate swirls, and wrote in chocolate Happy 18th Birthday! Our waitress said he said she couldn't possibly be 90! All good fun.
It was lovely to see the 3 ladies, all 90 this year, together. Mum's friend has the loveliest most photogenic smile. My auntie, a happy lady with a lovely sense of humour, has a strange serious Photo Face! We took several photos with her on and all are the same. I need Daisy's advice for any future photos!

My DD's dad turned up at the hotel up to see mum and bring her a present and had a coffee with us. He also had a video on his laptop from DD3 and OH for mum, which he showed her. We had a lovely unrushed afternoon, then finally took auntie home, then mum. We stayed with her for another hour, while she opened more cards and presents.
Being my mum there have to be some moans! She didn't like the scarf my ex and his wife bought her, and moaned to OH and I that she had 3 large boxes of Milk Tray amongst her gifts. Are there no other makes of chocolate?? She asked. As if the 3 givers of the chocs had any idea she would get more! We felt like offering to take some off her hands!

All in all a lovely day, which mum really enjoyed. We left her tired but happy

A day to remember Liz and it wouldn't be right if you didn't get at least one moan
Pictures are lovely , how nice for the chef to put 18 on to make her smile , a long time since she was 18 hahaha
