    Ouch, allergic reaction!

As I have mentioned on another thread, I am allergic of something in permanent hair dyes. I then discovered a more natural one from Holland And Barratt, and I have stuck to that with no problems.

I coloured my hair on Monday, and by Tuesday night I had a very sore back and sides of neck and top of shoulders. By yesterday morning it was extremely sore and felt hot, like sunburn. I eventually worked out what it was. The colour comes with sachets of shampoo, conditioner and 'anti aging cream', which is a leave in conditioner. I use this cream most but not every, time I colour. I use a small amount as it makes your hair look greasy. I noticed the day after applying it this time that my hair had a 'wet' feel to it, half way between wet and greasy, especially the lower part of my hair. I had obviously over done it with the cream. 'Never mind, I thought, think how much conditioning it is getting!'. This was obviously what had upset my skin. As soon as I made the connection (yesterday morning) I washed my hair. I have taken an antihistamine both mornings and used Sudacrem to try and calm it. It is very slightly better today. I had a similar reaction on the front of my neck to some face cream a couple of years ago, and I just had to sit it out until it subsided.
The puzzling thing is this hair cream only contains natural ingredients, so I have no idea what it is that is affecting me. I have thrown it all away in any case, and won't be using it again!

Gem has it got Henna in it anywhere as that can cause a lot of bad reactions.. I only use Semi on mine last ages and I wash my hair every morning says up too 28 washes but lasts well beyond that , How sore you must feel you may need to take the Antihistamines for a few days to be sure it's under control xxx

Gem - that sounds very uncomfortable. I hope it soon subsides.

Even so-called 'natural' ingredients can cause allergic reactions, after all, pollen is 'natural'. It might be worth Googling the various ingredients and seeing if there are any recognised irritants.

Ooo you poor thing. I hope it settles soon. I'm hoping that the new hair salon I've found is a good one. The stylist is going to use an amonia free permanent dye. Hopefully it suits.

Thanks everyone, I will survive It is less sore than it was.

Oma I used to henna my hair, so I don't think it would be that. I used to pass away many a Saturday aftenoon, head wrapped in a cling film, LOL.
I will look up the ingredients Daisy. I looked up one this morning, but I found it is GOOD for sensitive skin and eczema
              I will check the rest.

Gem, even if it says it's good for sensitive skins, it could still cause irritation on your skin. There's a whole range of 'skin friendly' products that I'm allergic to, and I also can't use products with cheap forms of aloe vera. Cheaper products utilise the leaves of aloe vera, but I'm ok with pharmaceutical quality which only use the inner parts of the leaves.

                    Thanks Nan2.
The soreness went on for 2 or 3 days. Now I have neck which looks very like a tortoises neck. Or the neck of a lady who has lived more than 100 years. I kid you not! It is horrendous. so dry and stretched. It is a good thing I have long hair so can hide it when I go out. I have bought E45 repair and replenish, unscented lotion for very dry skin and hope to in time get a reasonable looking skin back!! All the sachets of that hair cream are in the bin!

Gem - I'm glad the soreness has gone, but I suppose it will take a little time for the skin to rejuvenate.

DS2 had to take their dog to the vets on Saturday because despite all the recommended flea treatments etc he was scratching a lot. The vet decided he has an allergy and gave him medication which is already working. This made me laugh, because DS2 also has numerous allergies, eg if I go to their house wearing something I've washed in the previous couple of days he will get a reaction to the detergent even without being in the same room. I'm now wondering what if the dog has an allergy to me as well!!!

Nana - fortunately it's just washing detergents and fabric conditioners DS2 is allergic too. So far he's survived my shampoo and shower gel usage!

How strange. I've never heard of such a strong reaction before.

                              Allergies are strange things!

Some people are so allergic to pet hair even standing close to a pet owner can trigger a reaction - even when we are sure we have brushed ourselves free of hair!

I don't know where my allergies stem from. I am penicillin allergic, have hay fever, and am sensitive to various products, as this thread illustrates.
Mu mum has no allergies. Dad had none, until in his 70s he had an allergic reaction to crab, something he had eaten all his life.

Daughters 1 and 3 have allergies. Daughter 2 none so far. I hope it stays that way!
