Dry socket

I am not sure what a dry socket is exactly Gemini. I hope you are not in too much pain and that the dentist can put things right for you.

Plant, Dry Socket is a rare complication of tooth extraction. The blood clot which normally forms to protect the healing tooth and keep food particles etc out, is either lost or never formed. Some people are prone to it, and if you have had it before you are likely to have it again. The bone and nerve are exposed, making everything painful. Everyone say it is more painful than the original toothache which led you to the dentist in the first place! The pain tends to extend to your ear and jaw, so you feel very sorry for yourself!

I have had the gel/paste inserted this morning. It's a very shallow cavity for some reason, so the dentist doesn't think it will stay in long. It is less painful now.

Sounds very unpleasant and painful Gemini, I hope it didn’t spoil your holiday. Love the pictures.

Gem, I'm glad it's lees painful, but if the packing doesn't stay in long does that mean you'll be in pain again and will have to have it re-done? xx

Well, they didn't really say Daisy, so we shall see. I haven't had to go back in the past, but this is shallow. I can see it myself in the mirror as it's a lower tooth, and the dentist commented on it.
I will just keep my fingers crossed!

It got increasingly painful and I could see that there was hardly any of the packing still in there.

I got a emergency appointment this morning, with my own dentist thank goodness. The one I saw the last two times was very sweet but very young and had to call in help a couple of times. I wished I had someone more experienced!

This time the pain was relieved when she put the socket paste in.
The area is generally healing well , dry socket aside, so that's good news.

I’m so pleased you’ve got some relief Gem and were able to see “your” dentist. Hopefully now things will only get better.

I hope it will start healing now and no pain. Did they think it would stay in this time Gemini

Plant, the paste does come out over a few days anyway, but not as quickly as this time. It is there to provide some initial pain relief and to protect the healing socket. Hopefully once it's all out the gum will have healed over.

Let's hope it will be ok this time, Gem. It sounds really horrible.

It's a horrible painful condition Daisy. Thankfully it is rare. I only know two people who have ever had it apart from me, one of those being Mr Oma.
