    Flu jabs

Do you have a flu jab?
I have been offered them verbally in the past as I am classed as my mums carer by the surgery, in that I make and bring her to all appointments. I have declined so far.
This year, maybe because I am now 65, I have had a letter inviting me to have one.
My mum and auntie both have them annually with no side effects.

DH and I have them every year, no problems. Although, last year, they advised DHnot have his as he was in chemo and they thought his body had enough chemicals to deal with. We took their advice and hekept well.

I always have my annual flu jab. (It is already booked for this Saturday). When I worked in the nursery, they paid for it, and frowned upon anyone who declined the invitation. After I retired, I paid for it myself. Usually about £10. This year it is free, as I am now 65. I have so far, never had any ill effects, although I know of some people who have been quite unwell after the jab. I do wonder how ill those people would have been if they caught the flu having not been vaccinated.

I have been having mine for the past 10 years as I am Diabetic, then when B got the cancer of course you must have it for their safety ,

Never had any adverse effects ,
I was once unwell but that was because I already had a sore throat when I had the jab I don't think it was anything to do with that just a coincidence ,

I would say if your offered it take it , I know it doesn't cover every strain of Flu but better safe than sorry .
I agree with Sunshine what if you refused and then contracted the Flu

Like you Oma, P has been having it for ages because he is diabetic. We both had that awful flu that was rife at at Christmas 1999, we were both so Ill. it’s the only time I thought I was going to die!!! That is why I always have the flu jab, I would never ever want to be like that again. Friends of ours say, oh, we never get the flu, and never have the jab....all I can say is they’ve been very lucky. I would say have it if you’re offered it.

This is the first year I actually qualify to have a free flu vaccine and as I have to see my GP later this month I will make an appointment for myself and OH when I am there

I had the flu jab for the first time last year.
They gave me the pneumonia jab at the same time.
              Didn't have any side effects.

Enfys - I've never had full blown flu (thank goodness) but I started having the flu jab as soon as I was old enough. To me it seems silly to take the risk, not only of getting flu but of passing it on to other people. I've never had any side effects.

We can get it done at our chemists, which is very convenient.

We always have it. Usually a special clinic is set up on Saturdays.

If any of you remember a couple of years ago I had my flu jab and pneumonia at the same time and was so ill for 2 weeks it turned out the combination was far too strong for my body to cope with I was bedriden for 6 days with the threat of being hospitalised,it took me a good 6 weeks to get back to some kind of normality.
I have just had the flu jab appointment made for the end of the month with OH the only effects are an achy arm for a day or two.

Our surgery has just phoned and offered us appointments to have the flu jab! They've never done that before, usually got to arrange it ourselves. We get ours at the beginning of October. Seems a bit daft not to have it especially with all the dire warnings about getting the flu!

I was sent an invitation to make an appointment for it at our surgery. However as our local pharmacy also do it for free I would rather have it done there.
As I have my annual review with the nurse in a couple of weeks I imagine they will give me it then however. We never book one for my mum as they just give it when she's there for her review,.which is in October.

We are usually given a number when we go and join the queue sitting in the corridor with one arm exposed in readiness for the jab!

Apparently the doctors surgery really like to do the flu jabs because they get extra funding according to how many they actually do. That is why so many of them are sending out invitations to patients who qualify for a free jab. It also goes onto your medical records when it was done. Chemists are supposed to inform your GP when they do the jab, but I wonder how often the notification goes adrift.
