    Oh Dear...

A friend recommended a local salon for a Japanese manicure. No varnish, nails treated with vitamins and oils and buffed. I made an appointment for this afternoon. I arrived, was asked to take a seat, and there I sat, and sat and sat for 15mins. Three assistants chatted with each other and fiddled with their phones. I was asked if I wanted a drink and told that the assistant wouldn’t be long. In the end I had to say I could wait no longer as I had somewhere else to be and I had run out of time.
I have to say if I had treated a client in this way I would have expected to be out of a job by the end of the day. I have a sneaking suspicion the owner wasn’t there though.
I was fuming to say the least but I just got my coat and left.
Was I being petty? What would you have done?

You don’t mind waiting if they are busy and have got behind but that was just plain ignorant ignoring the client I would have left too

I would have done the same, and I would tell the owner the reason I didn't have my mails done. If the appointment was recorded in the appointments system/book the till should be short by the price of your treatment, so the owner should guess that something is wrong, somewhere!

What a pity, though - it sounds like a really nice treatment.

You keep clients by providing a good service. Doing a good job and making the client feel special. Leaving them sitting for 15 minutes after the appointment time fulfills neither of these.
What a waste of your time Grauntie!

I agree, Gem. I used to go to one salon where they always kept me waiting for 5 minutes. I tried being early, on time and a few minutes late. At first I just thought things had got a bit behind etc, but in the end I stopped going - it really annoyed me. You could often see the therapist just faffing around while I waited. On the other hand, my hairdresser is always bang on time. It can be done.

There are so many nail bars in Town now. Almost as many as pubs. I think you did the right thing Grauntie. Not cheap either. At one salon the staff speak in their native tongue. They've been there about 5yrs now so surely they understand English more than they let on. Lovely girls tho'.

This is a normal beauty salon. I might have fared better at a proper nail bar Nana, and, stewing a bit more, I realised that although none of the girls had been deliberately rude, they had no manners at all between them! When I arrived no-one offered to take my coat, no-one returned my greeting (good afternoon), no-one engaged me in conversation of any kind and radio something or other was bashing away in my lug hole. Add to that the fact that all nail desks were situated in the window area....aaarrrggggh!
I will not be going back.

I would have done the same as you GM. Not going to get many clients if they carry on like this.

In our little high street five minutes drive away there are seven nail bars, three beauty salons, four hairdressers and five barbers. Pubs on the other hand we only have one but four posh coffee shops, seven charity shops, a little Tesco, little Sainsbury, five card shops and we also have several restaurants mostly Indian. Other than that there are several pound type shops. It is not a big high street so it is quite full one way or another.

What gets me is that all the ladies sit there having their nails done and the Thai/Asian workers have their faces completely covered but the clients are breathing in whatever fumes the workers don’t want to breath in! I used go and have manicures, I have never had the gel overlay type ones as my nails are actually very strong (now I have said that I bet one of them breaks before my holiday) and someone told me they are not good for your nails. I do my own now.

Goodness Zizi, what a strange collection of shops. I haven't seen a nail bar in our shopping areas, we have plenty of coffee shops and charity shops.

There seems to be an outbreak of Nail Bars in my area,in the local shopping centre there are 5 in a 10minute walk from each other,I have only ever been to one Grauntie and to be honest have been seen to near enough straight away there is no way I would sit 15mins,does the shop have a review page where you can vent your displeasure and give star rating on your visit.
The Nail Bars near me always seem to be busy which amazes me as the cost starts from £15.00 for Shellac Cover or £20/25 for acrylic nails, the customers all seem to be single mums during the daytime how they can afford it bemuses me as when DD wanted a treatment for a very special occasion her income wouldn't cover it so I treated her she was amazed as to how much some of the mums where paying for pedicures and false nails.Moan over from me.

                              AN UNEXPECTED RESULT ! 😳
I was walking past the offending salon this afternoon when I spied my friend waiting. I went in to say hello and on reception was the daughter of another friend. She immediately asked if it was I who had had the spot of bother recently. Apparently it had only come to light this week! I was given an apology and a voucher for a Japanese manicure and the advice not to book a Saturday, although they will be addressing the problem. (No senior staff or receptionist on Saturday would you believe!)

                              How happy am I! 😁😁😁
