    Prescription!!

On Friday I went to my GP's surgery, in town for my annual medication review. As I only had a couple of days supply of BP tablets left I asked the nurse to be sure to put them back on prescription. She said she would, right away, and did I want her to order them to be sent to my pharmacy? I said yes, as it was quicker than me doing it online when I got home later.

By Sunday night I had taken my last tablet (I take one morning and night), and no email from the pharmacy. As they don't always email, I went in anyway. According to the surgery website I could see that the prescription had been issued, so it should have been at the pharmacy. On Monday, no prescription made up for me for me at the pharmacy, or on their system, so they couldn't issue me with anything.
This morning I popped to the pharmacy straight after breakfast, so I could take my morning tablet, taking my phone in case of any problems. No prescription yet again, even though they checked the system again.
I phoned my GP's only to eventually be told the paper prescription was waiting there for me!! I have had mine and my mum's sent electronically to my local pharmacy every month for years, so why this happened, no idea.
So, back into the car, an 8 mile round trip to pick up the damned prescription. Back to the pharmacy, then home to take the tablet and have cuppa. I had only planned to be out of the house for 10 minutes. This seems designed to raise the blood pressure

Poor you Gems enough to raise it sky high we also use the Electronic system from the Surgery the only thing we find is that it can take quite a few days before we received the medication, its not to bad when we still have a short supply but when the Dr,prescribes a new medication such as he did for me last Thursday and for me still not to have received it is something to be looked at,possibly give you the new prescription in paper form so you can get the first supply from the chemist yourself.

OH had a problem with his prescription a few weeks ago .
We both have our prescriptions electronically sent to the pharmacy which is then delivered to us. All we have to do is request a repeat prescription on line when needed and it’s supposed to be fail save. That is till human intervention takes place. For some unknown reason a receptionist took upon her/his self to print a paper version on his prescription and pop it in the collection box for when patients actually physically to to the surgery.
When OH had waited for a few days for it to arrive he rang the surgery only to be told
“Yes the prescription has been issued, printed and collected “ ! ?
      Some one has OH’s prescription.
I can only wonder who would ask for the wrong prescription ?

We get ours Electronically ordered and sent to Chemist for delivery , just order on line with a box to say who we want to pick them up and Deliver ,
Only trouble is one of B's tablets are a controlled drug ( morphine ) so we have to call the Chemist to pick them up and ring the surgery and give the Chemist permission to collect the prescription for us
They deliver them separate in a secure van and they have to be signed for .
A bit of a faff but always delivered quickly

I order mine on line but then collect them after a couple of day. One lot of tablets I have to collect from the hospital, a cardiologist I saw earlier this year has to sign the prescription

OH went to local pharmacy last week to collect our meds. Only problem was they couldn't find his on the collection shelf. According to computer script had been received and completed. Anyway the pharmacist gave hime the drugs on his script and home he came. Later that afternoon the prescription delivery driver was there with his drugs! We don't and never have had a delivery from pharmacy. Today he got a call from hospital re his cancer drugs. The hospital pharmacy wanted to know how many tablets he had left. Nurse had no idea why they wanted to know. Hopefully mystery may be solved tomorrow when he goes for blood tests and t pick up his next lot of drugs.

Gem, this has started to happen at our surgery. All of a sudden we find the drugs we ordered have not been sent to the chemist as usual and the script is sitting in a box at the surgery. The Lord alone knows why. Also I have been told I will have to pay for my eye drops but I order them still and still they turn up!

Technology isn’t the B and end all is it, when I go online for my prescription you can’t order in advance you have to be on the last 3 dys of it, otherwise they won’t let you tick the box. So if your not available say on holiday you have to go in and sort it. Funnily though I ordered a prescription it didn’t come on the allotted day went down a day later still nothing, turns out there was something I hadn’t clicked online, it is more convenient to go straight to chemist but my error wouldnt have happened if I was putting it in the little box in the surgery so I went without my thyroid tabs for 3 dys

Gem, how frustrating for you, but I'm glad you got it sorted out eventually.

In most things, I think I'm generally inclined to use the online option, but not with prescriptions.

I get two months' supply at once (a very kind locum upped it from monthly for me!) and two weeks before they run out I take a repeat presecription request in to the surgery. They send the prescription to the village chemists and I pick it up from there 3-5 days later. In 10 years it's only gone wrong once, when I think the prescription got mislaid at the chemists, but the surgery gave me another one without any problem and it was made up within a day. The chemists are also happy for OH to pick medication up for me, but maybe it helps that they know us.

We can order on-line but as both OH and myself have medications that have to be monitored we have to see the doctor each time. Luckily they are willing to give us three months worth of paper prescriptions at a time so we just take them in when due. If we happen to be away then we have to have them altered by the surgery.
