    Some Teachers !!

Tonight picked GS1 up from school and I always ask how his day has gone and if he's had any good lessons , he told us about his science teacher , A French man called Dr Pascal ( think that's the spelling )
Apparently he will only answer to Dr if the children forget and call him Mr or Sir they are given a mark against their names , 3 marks and they get detention , GS1 said this man is always shouting and angry at pupils , luckily GS1 isn't afraid or bothered about him but what about less confident children ?
This sounds like a man with too big a ego to me , When DD came to pick him up I mentioned it to her but she had already dealt with it she informed the school that no way will GS1 be doing detention for calling someone Mr or Sir , it's still being respectful . Different if he was being naughty but not for this . GS1 said he even expects other teachers to address him as Dr and ignores any who don't .
DD said he has little man syndrome puffs his chest out and struts about to make up for his shortness in height . He sounds like a nasty piece of work to me 😠

    Loves himself doesn't he.

No disrespect to the French in general, but Rosie had a French teacher at school who taught french, and none of the pupils liked her.
She has since left, and teaches at another school.
Pleased your daughter stood up to him.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

        Good for your daughter Oma.
What a silly, pretentious man. Such an unfair and unnecessary thing to punish a child for!
One of my SILs is a 'doctor' I doubt anyone adresses him as such!

Oh the head knows as DD went to see him about it , as she told him from a early age our children are taught to call teachers Miss,Mrs, Sir , a sign of respect and even medical Dr's these days use their first names so there is no need to be so pompous, She said the Head has been contacted by several parents but it's his right to ask to be called Dr , but it's not compulsory so if a parent objects to detention on them grounds there isn't a thing this teacher can do as it's not a disciplinary matter , in other words he's a idiot

Oma - I'm all in favour of children being respectful and polite - but in my book the teachers should also be respectful and polite to the children. You can't expect it if you don't give it, and teachers should set a good example. Shouting at their pupils isn't a good example! I think the French are more formal than we are in schools, but even so, he's in the UK not France and I don't think he can really expect special treatment.

I worked in one school where the children were expected to call all female staff Madam. I also taught in the local FE college and you could tell who were ex-pupils of this particular school, because they couldn't get out of the habit of calling staff 'madam'! But they were always very polite!

I agree Daisy, I must say I've seen some teachers in my time but never seen or heard anything so silly before

I would think the school do some kind of internal assessment of teaching staff, like observing each other's lessons and you'd think that kind of bumptious behaviour would be dealt with. It would certainly make interesting reading in an Ofsted report!

At my GS'S Grammer School there are quite a few DR's, some wear gowns and the children call them DR? My son went to the same school and he often refers to them using their title as DR?. This teacher is in the minority and the children are not used to using his title but detention is not the way to go to earn their respect.

He only joined the school in September so maybe they are watching his teaching method , As you say Plant our children are not used to this title. Sir Miss or Mr are natural to them .
Im pleased my DD has dealt with it GS1 is a good student, polite, attentive , and loves school , this teacher could put a lot of children off science by his attitude ,

He loves himself doesn't he ?
If he wants to be exact in the French lesson then shouldn't he ask to the pupils call him monsieur ?
                      Silly jumped up man

My Dad was a little man but never suffered from the small man syndrome. He was genuine, kind, funny & loving. What a stupid little man the teacher is. Head needs to step in in my opinion. As if these young students don't have enough to deal with. Oma, it's annoyed me too. Well done to your DD.

That would have annoyed me, and I would have been in touch with the head if it was one of my lot too.....

I always remember DS getting a lot of detention in his last year at school so would have been about 15, never been in bother before, all reports stating how polite and well behaved, hard worker he was, so I rang the school to see if there was a "problem" to be told the whole class were on detention, so asking why was told there were a handful of lads misbehaving so the whole class was put on detention., seemed a stupid arrangement to me, it wasn't him so why get punished.... glad to say after a word with the teacher he didn't do any more detentions

Pearl if that's not a way to start bullying I don't know what is. The well behaved pupils aren't going to care much for the others & in my opinion this could cause a whole lot of trouble. The good ones aren't exactly going to 'like' whoever has caused this detention. The teacher isn't really teaching 'justice' either.

Don't get me started. My DD2 had what was then known as 'school phobia', which I think is now classed as a School Refuser. Sometimes schools have a lot to answer to. Not tarring all schools with the same brush. Schools don't have it easy now. If only they could be left alone to do their job.

Apart from this one man its a really good school always a scrum to get in from Primary , we were so pleased J got a place there is a waiting list , DD had a point when she said wait till end of term results see how many pupils don't thrive well in his classes then the school will sit up and take notice as they won't want there excellent ofsted rating tarnished
