    Poor spelling!

As you know we have a very relaxed policy here regarding spelling and grammar. As long is the poster can be understood, anything goes We are talking on a forum, not sitting an exam!

However, incorrect spelling when writing anything for your job is unacceptable. Especially in this age of spell check.

I had to send back the emailed brochure for my mum's bungalow to the estate agent four time, due to spelling errors (she had only asked me to look at the pictures, which I said were fine but that there were a few typos)
She resent it, with two of the mistakes corrected. Leaving seven, very obvious mistakes. I then pointed these all out giving the corrections. It came back again and there was still one wrong.

She never seemed apologetic or embarrassed. You would think I was a paid proof reader not a paying customer!
I know for certain that my eleven year old GD could do a lot better, and would have the sense to spell check or ask someone else if she was unsure.

As well as the many spelling errors, she said the drive had room for several cars (I told her you could get two on maybe, just) And the shed she described as integral. Integral to what, it sits at the bottom of the garden?! That is now described as a storage shed.
Do they train these people,or even ask of they can spell and write before employing them??

My rant over for the day.

That is not acceptable Gemini. You are doing their job for them.

I am really bad at spelling and grammar, I have never hid the fact , those who know me like you ladies are very aware of it But if it came to a letter or legal document I would most definitely use spell check and good old Google ,

I call my DD the Grammar Police she is like a dog with a bone and isn't afraid to tell people and will send documents back to be amended ,

She knows better than to say anything to me mind you , I know my failings and I have managed to get to this age and be understood .

Having said that I totally agree Gem if it is professional it should be flawless , I don't think a lot read what they have typed and just send it out ,
I bet they loved you in the office

By the way I had to google Professional I am never sure if its 2 F's or 2 S's

Im not fat just 6ft too small

Oma - I'm also dreadful at spelling - you should see me trying to do a crossword! - and as Gem says we love our members for who they are, not for their spelling, grammar, typing or ability to work out their change in a shop.

I do think 'professional' documents should be correct though, and to have all those errors and not even be politely apologetic about it is appalling. You're right to be annoyed, Gem. The trouble is there are so many people who wouldn't even spot the mistakes so they often don't get picked up.

English was my best subject at school, especially spelling.
Hubby is always asking me how to spell things.
I know i have made a few mistakes on here.
It's not that i can't spell, but sometimes when i'm in a hurry, i accidentally press the wrong key.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Nanto - typos are a completely different thing. I find after years of drilling proofreading into students I often miss my own typos. And as long as the message is understandable, I don't think it matters. We're chatting, like we would in person, not preparing serious legal documents.

These are some of the brochure mistakes!

                Oppourtunity.

                Addressing room.

No capital in the name of a local area.

                Purchase when she meant purchaser

                Access when she meant accessed.

                I could go on!!

Gem - at least some of those should have been picked up by spellcheck and a grammar checker.
