    In praise of a supermarket

Most of you know that my only cousin recently died very suddenly, and we are gradually trying to sort out his affairs.

This morning we went into our nearest Waitrose to cancel his MyWaitrose account. The lady we saw couldn't have been more helpful or kinder, and she took the trouble to double check that the information she had given us was correct. We had some shopping to do, so she said she'd do that while we shopped. As we reached the checkout I saw her and went over to say we'd be back at the Customer Service desk in a few minutes. She said not to worry - it was all sorted out. As we were unloading our trolley she came back with a huge bouquet of gorgeous flowers for me, saying how sorry she was for my loss. I'm afraid my eyes got all leaky!

Of course, the lady had no idea my DIL1 works in Waitrose's head office, so when we got home I sent DIL a photo of the flowers and told her what had happened. She sent a 'shoutout' which I think goes all round Waitrose for this lovely lady.

Sometimes it's the totally unexpected acts of thoughtfulness that make a difference, isn't it.

Awww! Daisy, my eyes got leaky just reading about it!
As you say, an act of kindness, especially when we are going through rough times can make all the difference.

Such a kind and thoughtful gesture Daisy. It’s things like this that show the true meanining of customer service/satisfaction. When it is so unexpected it really does make all the difference. Well done to the thoughtful assistant and Waitrose and partners.

What a lovely thing to do Daisy! Well done to that 'partner' and the team. A pat on the back goes a long way to foster good relationships between staff and customers.

My GD and her partner work for Waitrose and find they are a good company to work for. I gather they have a totally plastic free store in Oxford, would love to go there.

Plant - my DIL went to work in the IT dept as a contract worker when she returned to work when GS2 started school. After the 3 months contract they offered her a Partnership and she's been there ever since - about 10 years now. They are good employers, and DIL is very happy there.
