Our house was built in the late 60s, and for some odd reason the bathroom radiators are connected to the hot water system, rather than the heating system. So when you run a bath or shower the radiators heat up. This is ok, except that the bathrooms are like fridges the rest of the time, and the rooms never warm up fast enough to be of benefit when you're stepping out of the bath or shower. They are nice and toasty by the time you're ready to open the windows to let steam out though.
We've put up with this for 20 years because 'experts' told us there wasn't anything much they could do. Our current heating chappie is made of sterner stuff. He serviced the boiler last week, and today he's putting much-needed new thermostats on all the radiators and doing something too clever for me to understand to make the existing bathroom rads work off the central heating. I think it involves extra pipework, but most of it will be under the floor, so should look ok.
Finger crossed tomorrow morning we should be able to have our showers in a warm bathroom!
