    Heating Problems

Our house was built in the late 60s, and for some odd reason the bathroom radiators are connected to the hot water system, rather than the heating system. So when you run a bath or shower the radiators heat up. This is ok, except that the bathrooms are like fridges the rest of the time, and the rooms never warm up fast enough to be of benefit when you're stepping out of the bath or shower. They are nice and toasty by the time you're ready to open the windows to let steam out though.

We've put up with this for 20 years because 'experts' told us there wasn't anything much they could do. Our current heating chappie is made of sterner stuff. He serviced the boiler last week, and today he's putting much-needed new thermostats on all the radiators and doing something too clever for me to understand to make the existing bathroom rads work off the central heating. I think it involves extra pipework, but most of it will be under the floor, so should look ok.

Finger crossed tomorrow morning we should be able to have our showers in a warm bathroom!

I envy you Daisy! My plan was to have the radiator fitted during the renovation, sadly not to be so I just shiver!

Our bathroom didn't used to warm up as much as we wanted it to.
About 18 months ago, hubby changed the radiator for a bigger double one.
The bathroom is like an oven now,its lovely.

Lizzie, as Nanto said, sorry if the renovations aren't going ahead as you'd hoped. xx

Nanto, the main bathroom has a heated towel rail with a radiator in the middle, but the ensuite shower has a small radiator with an ordinary rail in front of it. It was a compromise because it can only go on the window wall and all the combined ones were too tall.

But, both bathrooms now feel lovely and warm.

Good morning, Nanto, 70% of the people had to vote for them, not even 50% was reached, the cooperation are going to give it another try in the summer, maybe a different version, we shall see. We still have single glass in some rooms, a court case has been won saying that double glass should be fitted in all homes, the rule is now going through parliament. We have to be taken off the gas at some time or other so we shall see what happens.

I was talking to my young neighbour yesterday, years ago they split an apartment and made it into 2 for single people, Vincent has lived here almost 7 years, he now has a partner and they have got an apartment at the other side of the village, they are being built and they will get the key in april, I won't mention what the rent is!!! We will miss him, he was 19 years old when he came, he has never been any bother at all, we will have to wait and see who comes, I thought the age group was 19 to 25 but they could have changed that.

Daisy and Oma, I hope the dogs have fully recovered now. My dog was once very ill, Gem may remember this, he had licked rat poison from his paws, someone had spread it and he must have walked in it, a Yorkshire terrier died the same day from it, I always met the man with his little dog on my walk. The vet said the terrier didn't stand a chance.

I am going to the gym early then hope to get some sewing done, I got some new plants for the balcony yesterday and got olive trees pruned, they look bare so hope that they survive!

Oh I hate a cold bathroom ( well any room in fact )
Although our bathroom is small, with a small radiator in it, ts never really that warm in there .
I do wonder if it being a wet room rather than bathroom room makes a difference. ?

Mimi, I hated our cold bathroom as well. I used to put my towel where I could reach it without getting out of the shower cubicle because it was too cold to step out of it! Today all will be different!

I don't see any reason why a wet room should be colder, perhaps you just need to do what Nanto has done and have a bigger radiator, if your boiler will support that. A cold wet room must be worse than a cold bathroom, because you can't hide in the shower cubicle like I did!

Lizzie, how disappointing that so few people were in favour of the improvements to your flats. I suppose people worry about change, and perhaps think the improvements will result in higher bills, although logically improved and new double glazing should save money. There's nowt so strange as folks, is there!

Daisy our boiler won't support a bigger radiator but gas engineer has informed us that the gas boiler could do with replacing.
I don't know what bothers me the most, the cost or the mess !

Daisy, that is the annoying part! It wasn't going to cost us any extra in fact, I have seen that the people that had it all done 2 years ago actually save a lot of money!!

We lucky our wet room is lovely and warm as the heating pipes run under the floor in there and we have a heated towel rail.

The downstairs loo is another thing all together, Im not kidding you could store a dead body in there,
Its in the extension bit that is the utility we had all the house insulated last year they came drilled holes in the wall and filled the cavities,
We though it would be a big help, well not in the loo it’s not ,
We have put bigger radiator in but once that goes off it’s freezing ,

                              Daisy
Hope not much of the floor has to come up and it’s all done now xxx
Im not fat just 6ft too small
