I agree, I bet for most of us the clothes are not dirty just needing freshening.
OH's golf stuff can be muddy so needs more, and I like to do towels and bedding on longer hotter wash. Everything else just a quick swish around is all that's needed really!

The everything goes at once saga continues.

OH and I got out the old washing machine and put it in the garage. The new one arrived, it fits, OH connected it and we have used it twice. It needs to move back slightly so the door can be fitted back on, but that is no problem.

The new dishwasher came the day after the washer. The next day we got it out and put it outside. Hopefully a local scrap man is coming to take both away tomorrow.
OH, who had never fitted dishwasher before was doing well. The board it sat on was soggy and disintegrating due to the leak, so she broke that up and got it out. Then she had to find a substitute board, which luckily she did.
Then, she discovered there was a socket on the wall behind it. This meant that the dishwasher won't go far back enough on the side where the socket is, and the door wont go back on.
So, she decided to disconnect it. She did, but found out that various sockets were connected to it so now don't work
The washing machine is one of the things not working. SO.... once again we have no clothes washing facilities. You couldn't make it up.

OH knows when she is defeated and so contacted out lovely electrician Jack. He is working in Harrogate in the morning but will come over tomorrow afternoon to rescue us!

Gem, I think your OH deserves a medal, with bar and gold star! But it is a classic case of Someone's Law, isn't it. I hope it doesn't take major electrical rewiring to get the problem sorted out. Thank goodness you've got a "Jack" who will come and sort it out.

Oh Gem its one thing after another , now im no expert but sounds like the one behind my Washer and dryer the socket is a ring socket that several outlets feed into , sort of a control one ,( well that's how I understand it works )
B will tackle most electrical things but not those they too complicated if you don't know how they work .

My washer on a short wash doesn't spin off enough but we also have a spin button so once the short wash is finished I put it on spin and that takes about 5 mins .

Its true we never get really dirty clothes they not on long enough to get really dirty , apart from the dogs blankets I keep in case he has a sleep over or we cant get him in boot to go home and he has to go on back seat in car , those I put on a longer wash , I use a hotter wash for towels and tea towels

I wont put the washer on overnight as some years ago in our other house we got up to a flooded kitchen, the rinse cycle hadn't switched off and it was still pumping out water it was like a waterfall out of the door and soap dispenser
Im not fat just 6ft too small

For ordinary clothes i use a 30 minute wash at 40 degrees.
There is a 15 minute wash, but i have never used that.
Bedding and towels get done on hotter longer wash.
I wouldn't set it to come on at early morning.
Always had a fear of it going wrong, like it did for Oma.

We put the dishwasher on at night, but I don't generally put the washing machine on - I just don't think about it!

I'm a bit naive though, because it never occurs to me that they might go wrong.

                Old machines both gone!
We are using the washing machine via an extension lead for now.

Jack came today and looked at things. He is sending his assistant Toby on Wednesday to do the job.

Good you're getting sorted Gem. Our dishwasher & washer are the two most prized white goods in our house. I never leave anything running when I go to bed & go out. Our neighbour friend used to be a fireman & he advised us never to do it. Fire as well as flooding.

I bet you'll be pleased when it's all done & can get back to normality.
