The talk about mats and loo seat covers reminded me when I first visited my SIL in the Sates in the 1970s all the houses seemed to have a fluffy cover for the cistern with a little hole for the loo handle. I never quite worked out why - the houses weren't cold and the tank wasn't going to freeze.

I remember the first time my DIL visited my mother in England she couldn't believe they had carpets in the bathrooms! She still talks about it, they are busy planning a new bathroom, DIL says, "no carpets"!!

The lady I work for has a plain Royal blue carpet in her bathroom. It looks lovely WHEN I’ve just hoovered it but as soon as one person uses the bathroom it has bits on it again.

What about the little knitted crinoline ladies toil roll covers? Haven’t seen one for years.

Just been to the doctors, a lovely young lady, they are all young when you get to our age! My lungs are clear and it will take a few weeks for the cough to clear but I am feeling much better thanks.

Nana - it was American, I suppose that's reason enough!!! It made me giggle though - a bit like Victorians covering up the piano legs!

Lizzie - that's good news. You'll soon be feeling like a new woman. xx Where are you going in September?

I'd not heard that about the Victorians either Daisy. 😂 Pleased you're on the mend Lizzie.

Oma - I don't think it was ever actually true - more of an urban myth about straight-laced Americans in Victorian days.
