Do you hang out your washing?

Clover - I think dryers used to be expensive to run but I think they are more efficient these days and the unit cost of electricity is probably lower in relation to the overall cost of living.

If I'm using mine a lot I tell myself it's better than having wet washing dripping all over the house on radiators and making the house damp!

I put washing on the line whenever possible. OH always puts pegs on higgledy piggledy so I have to move them to the very edge of the items to avoid marking the clothing. No colour matching washing or pegs but I tend to group shirts and tee shirts for some unknown reason.

Have two of these positioned over a radiator in the utility area to use in the winter or wet weather.

I hang out the washing all year round. My tumble drier began burning clothes and I've never replaced it! I have my trusty Hills Hoist which I brought back from Oz 29 years ago! getting a bit old now, but does the job. I hate when OH hangs out washing, uses 6 pegs where 2 will do and the clothes are allover the place! Tend to hang things together not necessarily in colour order, but tidily and hung so wind can blow through sleeves etc. That's easier on a washing line, but the thought's there! Whatever peg comes to hand is used!

In Winter/wet days I just put the stuff on a clothes horse on the top landing and they get the heat coming up from downstairs and I rotate them as they dry. Maybe I should get myself a tumble drier to save all that nonsense!!

I always hang my washing out side when ever possible,, using the tumble dryer only when absolutely necessary.
I have a rotary airer and I put the ‘undies’ on first so that the larger items can hang in front of them , don’t know why as no one can see my washing apart from me when I am in the kitchen!

I have just read this, I always hang my washing outdoors, we got a huge terrace, 11 years ago now and I bought one of those folding washing racks in Lakeland at the time, it has been used so often, very handy, I have put new line in a few times but the frame is as good as new, I also have 2 retractable lines for sheets etc and IF I can't get them dry outdoors I hang them in the small bedroom and they are dry the next day. It isn't often we get rain hitting the terrace as there is a roof above it.
