We've been finding every morning that something has been in our garden overnight and has dug out several pots and even destroyed one side of our little rockery/water fountain. It was too big to be a mouse or even a rat, and I had suspected a hedgehog until some pots on a table were attacked.
Last night I woke up about 3 am and went to the loo. I never switch the light on, but suddenly the security lights came on in the back garden - we had a visitor. Curious to see who it was, I crept round to the spare room and there in the middle of the lawn was a really beautiful fox. It's either a very well-fed dog fox or a pregnant vixen and he/she was working round the lawn looking for worms, slugs etc, totally relaxed and not worried about the light at all. I watched until the light went out.
Mystery solved!
I think this fox lives in one of our adjoining neighbour's gardens because I often see it going in and out of there when I'm coming home from dog training late at night.
I'm glad it wasn't a rat!!!
