I'm sure across the length and breadth of the land there are optimistic vegetable growers chitting their seed potatoes this week-end.

This year I've only got 4 varieties - Pentland Javelin, Maris Bard, Shetland Black and Sarpo Mira. I'll probably weaken and get some Anya and Red Rooster.
I'm always like a kid in a sweet shop choosing potato varieties (sad, I know!), but there are soooo many to choose from, and for me that's the big advantage of growing them - you're not stuck with the same old same old kinds in the supermarkets.
If anyone's interested there's actually a database of potato varieties, and I think it makes fascinating reading. (Even sadder!)
