    From Drought to Flood

I've loved this long hot summer, so I'm not complaining about having to carefully water so many plants in the garden. As soon as the sun comes out our garden bakes dry, so it's been an uphill task to keep most plants alive.

Last night it started to rain.

This morning the patio is flooded and the paving squelched when I stepped on it. The drains are overflowing and so are the water butts.

One good thing - yesterday I planted a tiny conifer and some house leeks in the rockery and forgot to water! Nature's done it for me.

How are other people's gardens doing?

I have just emptied my pots this morning Daisy and its now looking bare , the leaves were piled up on the grass all wet and slippy , took B ages to get them all up two big black bin bags full and its only a tiny garden ,
Its very wet but not flooded thank goodness
We had the guttering cleared a couple of weeks ago so they holding up well to all the rain
Im not fat just 6ft too small

Our window cleaner is coming to do our gutters and clean the soffits etc in a week or two, so the floods will only be temporary (I hope!), but it's quite shocking how quickly the garden's flooded.

OH complained about the dry summer as his lawn was looking bare now it’s a lovely lush , albeit very wet , green lawn and now he is complaining that it’s growing like mad and it’s too wet to get on it to cut it ....MEN !

I think the ground was so baked dry that it can’t cope with all the intense rain and so the water takes ages to go.
Our garden is still very colourful with cosmos.I took down the runner beans and sweet peas some weeks ago and covered that area with black plastic, partly to suppress weeds but mainly to keep cats off the bare soil.

Some of my cosmos are over 5ft tall and are just coming into flowering.

Fortunately we aren't flooded. Still plenty of life left in the summer plants.
Hubby may or may not get round to sorting the tubs tomorrow.
Still getting a lovely display from the cosmos.

My cosmos are just about over - but I've been very lazy about dead heading, so definitely my own fault. It stopped raining for a while today, but it's started again now!

With the rain and sun you are all reporting, we expect our grass to be very long when we get back!

My DD, Sil and his brother and his wife are off to Ibiza on Friday for a week and they are having terrible weather there atm.

Plant - I hope it improves in Ibiza before your DD and family arrive.

Gem - and I'm afraid the weeds are going great guns, too!

Qwerty - our back garden is quite damp still - it's been drizzling all day today and has no chance to dry out. I hope it's better for the week-end as I need to cut the lawn!
