Just for Fun - little known facts about you!

The idea of this thread is to tell us something about you which we may not know! You can do as many as you like, but just one for each post please

My family and I nearly drowned in the Bay of Biscay when I was 5, going to South Africa. My father was on an Teacher Exchange Programme in Cape Town for 2 years. A horrible storm brewed up, the worst that Century so far. Everyone was told to wear everything they had as we would have to get into the lifeboats, and we were given tots of rum and whiskey to stop us being so sick. Carnarveon Castle, of the Union Castle Line. Our funnels were badly damaged, 3 engineers lost their lives when part of the engine blew up. Our Bow was smashed to pieces. We survived, and limped into Madeira for repairs and had to stay there for weeks. Finally we made it to Cape Town. I have cine film, put onto video now of us all there in funny Portuguese type hats eating bananas

When I was a baby my parents were in the final stages of emigrating to Australia when a family tragedy changed their plans.
I have an odd fear of walking on piers and any bridge that is not made of stone 😳

I have a 'bionic' thumb! Managed to slice through the tendon so now it is all wired up. I still have quite a bit of movement although restricted.

I had an HGV licence when we had our business, it has now lapsed. I won a £50,000 award for work related learning projects in 2008 and still have some of the money stashed away. I was the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) London Construction Ambassador in 2006, first woman in the six years of the award. I took my driving test quite a few times before I passed having had an accident on my very first one by hitting a parked vehicle and an expensive one at that! On my third one I rear ended a police car at some red traffic lights. I have to tell you that since I passed I have never had an "own fault" accident, oh except when I was reversing my convertible out of my drive and sneezed and hit the neighbours fence making it fall down, we paid for the damage of course.

Um I think that is about as much as I am prepared to tell you right now! OMA shut it!
