Earlier this year the gas company informed me they were putting my gas monthly payment up from £48 to £56. As I am very frequently in major credit meaning that they have to refund me I told them not to. They said that they estimated that I would owe them am amount between £8 and £12 at the end of the quarter. My argument was that they a) should allow that to be carried over to the next bill as they don't mind hanging on to over £200 of my money at times and b) £8 a month for three months equals £24 which is double their estimated underpayment. They were not happy but agreed to keep the amount at £48 and would review at the end of the next quarter which is now.
Imagine my surprise therefore when I received a letter from them today saying that having reviewed my gas usage they are changing the payments from £48 to.............£37! Of course I am very pleased but I cannot understand how very different their estimates are. Still I don't care, more money left on my bank account.
Also we had a water meter put in a couple of years ago and saw our water bills reduce from £28 a month to £7 a month. The meter is outside underneath the pavement so they just come along and read it without having to bother us.
