    Easter is coming!

    New Years Day, Valentines Day and Mothers Day have all gone - full speed ahead now to Easter

    Is Easter a family celebration for you, a religious one, do you go on holiday? Or none of these, do you just get on and ignore it?!

    We have hot cross buns, and we will probably have fish on Good Friday. At home we always did, so I think I just follow that pattern.
    Traditionally we try to get together as family on Easter Sunday. This has been at DD2s since GD arrived, with roast lamb, and an Easter Egg hunt in their garden. (which is large and no one ever finds all the eggs!)
    This year her baby is due a few days after Easter so I offered to host Easter Sunday. DD will either be heavily pregnant, have a newborn, or maybe even be in labour! I live much closer to the hospital than they do, and GD will be here with us of course, so I think that is the day GS should arrive. After DDs lunch, of course

    OH is golfing on Easter Monday, so I'm not sure if I will take a day to myself or get together with DD1... or maybe be visiting new GS!!

    Gem - lots of possibilities for your Easter. All of them lovely.

    When our sons were growing up I always made a big event of Easter - everything from new clothes for the whole family, if we were home I'd bake a Simnel cake, a leg of Welsh lamb on Easter Sunday, fish on Good Friday, doing all the spring cleaning the week before, and go with the flow socially. It would either be a trip up to see family in North Wales, from whichever part of the UK we were living in, or some of them would come to us, or we would get together with friends. But I would always make an occasion of it. I looked forward to it as marking the end of winter and the rebirth that is Spring. We never did Easter egg hunts, though!

    Nowadays, it often depends when Easter falls and what commitments the family has. I certainly don't get new clothes or spring clean!

      Family are going away during the school Easter holidays, it sure when, so I have no idea what I will be doing.

        No specific plans made here for Easter.

        We went to Thorntons today to get all the Easter eggs, and I like to have the names iced on.Gave her the list of names, paid, and asked if we could pick them up later, when we were on our way back to the car.
        Returned to the shop later, only to find all the boxes were open.Apparantely, Thorntons have changed the packaging, and they can't be opened and closed now.
        Hubby said we are not accepting them, it doesn't look good that the boxes were open.After a bit of umming and arhhing, she did agree to give us replacements.
        If I had realised the packaging had changed,i wouldn't have asked for names to be iced on.

          Nanto - it would look awful to have an opened box, no wonder you didn't want them! That reminds me I must get eggs for all the GCs - there's not a great deal of choice for 3 of them - one dairy- and gluten-free and 2 gluten-free - but it's much better than it was a few years ago.

          Talking about Easter eggs for GCs - do any of you give your GCs presents as well as eggs at Easter? I usually give them something small, and now the boys are older money is the easy option.

            I usually buy them all eggs but three of them are working, one at University and two at school. My DIL doesn't like her boys to have too much chocolate so I have bought the three youngest a small bag of little eggs and I shall give them money.

              I used to give them both eggs, but for the last 2 years I gave them presents. Last year GDs present was expensive - we took her to Build A Bear. However this was mainly because I was looking for an excuse to take her
              GD was very taken with the toy bunny I bought her baby brother, so I want to give her and GS ( who also loves soft toys) a bunny each. I have got them both £1 Cadburys egg to go with them.

                Mine all love to get eggs no matter how old they are so I will be buying those on offer for 3 x £10.00 from Morrisons I buy the boys all the same so no arguing and my eldest DGD will get a girly one and of course a cuddly rabbit for the latest edition is a must have.We spend the day quietly with family dropping in and out for the afternoon I will make a small spread of food and sandwiches as they are always "starving" when they get here.I am on holiday from work the next 3 weeks but with me working for a Church Charity we have done a nice window display with a mixture of traditional and modern themes depicting the Easter story I completed it this last week-end before my leave started and hope it attracts some extra custom to the shop.

                  I've invited both DDs & GSs. Full house here. We missed our Christmas celebrations together so we'll be having the full Christmas dinner ...pigs in blankets, turkey & all the trimmings. The middle GS is milk intolerant so I've had to get a dairy free egg for him. Baby has his own milk bar. Not sure if I'll be able to still get a Christmas pud. I think they may want to stay overnight too, so busy busy for me. I'll need choc to get me through it all...my excuse.

                      Nana - how lovely! Did anyone see the Mary Berry Easter programme last night? She was looking at Easter food from all over Christiandom and in Russia, under Stalin, all Christian festivals were banned - apart from Easter. So for the Russian Orthodox community Easter is the main celebration, more like Christmas. It was an interesting programme.

                        Yes Daisy, most of the outside shots were of our church, village hall and her garden. Loved the different food cooked for Easter.

                          Our Easter weekend is subject to change, if GC#3 makes his appearance!

                          If not, tomorrow we are going to DD3s for a while as OH is helping them board out their loft. Saturday is free. Some of it will be taken up by preparing for Sunday.
                          On Sunday the family are coming for lunch and an egg hunt in the garden - weather permitting.
                          OH has golf on Monday. Maybe DD2s baby will arrive on that day, then I will spend it with GD I went to look at his bedroom when I was there yesterday. It really took me back to waiting for DD3 (who was 2 weeks late!) Everything ready and waiting, but no baby yet.

                              I just heard from DD. No she's not in labour, LOL. On Tuesday there were traces of protein in her urine, so the midwife asked her to go the hospital today to be
                              checked. We were a bit worried, but she texted to say alll is well, so now we will enjoy easter even more
