    Elf on The Shelf

I think this is an American import which has become popular over here.
I gather the original idea was the Elf was checking for good behavior in the household up to Christmas.
We needed no such elf in my childhood home. I clearly remember my mum shouting up the chimney to the 'fairies' if I was misbehaving from November onwards!!

These elves are moved around the house each night by parents and sometimes do mischievous things (as if parents don't have enough to do at this time of year)

My GC have never had Elf on The Shelf. GS1 has 2 Kindness Elves . This involves a LOT of work for DD1 as not only do they move around the house, they leave tiny little notes, presents and suggestions for activities!

On Friday driving home from school GS2, ages 7, was tugging my heartstrings by telling me how very sad and left out he felt as all his friends had Elves and he couldn't join in conversations about the elves at school the next day! I told DD and she ordered him one. We both feel he has missed out quite a lot in recent months due to his sister needing mum's attention so much. I am very happy that he will get his elf, and interested to hear where he will go and what he will do

Gem, sometimes I think children can feel disproportionately sad when they feel a bit 'left out' when chatting to their friends.

We have two elves on the shelves. I got them some years ago when GD1 was feeling a bit like your GS2 because Mummy and Daddy felt, understandably, it was one job too many at the busiest time of the year for their business. My parents also had a shop which was very busy at Christmas, so I sympathised. I can remember how preoccupied and tired they were, and really didn't have much time to devote to our Christmas as a family.

Our elves even send text messages now!

Never had elves on the shelf. Might have done if this had been around when our kids were little.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Obviously mine and GC didn’t have them as they are a bit too old but my Nephew who is just turned 4 has one , it gets up to all sorts ,
Stuffs itself with mince pies or gets breakfast cereal all over work tops ,
climbs up the Christmas tree stealing baubles ,etc 😁

Its a bit of fun but so much more work for parents thinking something new every night .

The Elf arrived in GS2's household a couple of days ago. He was SO happy

Gem, brilliant. I'm sure he will be an extremely naughty elf and provide lots of amusing stories for your GS to tell his friends.

Plant I don't know! I think some shops sell them but I suspect DD ordered it from Amazon.

I think I got my elves from a garden centre a few years ago.
