    What shall I do?

I've sorted out which presents I've got so far for various people , but I've got a little problem!

I bought a hard-backed book which I think a friend will enjoy, off Amazon. I didn't open it immediately because I knew what it was. I've just had a look and it's second-hand! I didn't deliberately choose second-hand and it is in perfect condition - apart from being stamped inside as being withdrawn from a library stock and having one of those plastic covers on which I think I could take off?

I've checked it really carefully, and it doesn't even look as though it's been read.

I don't know if I can still give it to the friend. What would you do?

Well if it is is possible to make it look not secondhand, I would do so and give it as planned Daisy.
if you can remove the plastic cover and the page with the stamp in it, go for it!

I agree if you can maybe craft knife the stamped page and the plastic cover off and its in good condition go for it .
It is worth a go , if it doesn't work you can keep it for yourself or donate it

I don't think I can remove the stamped page - it's just inside the front cover, on the right, but the page is green like the inside of the cover. I'll have to keep it and get her something else, won't !

I would still give it to our friend and point out your mistake and include some chocolates, or buy her something else

I think Plant has the solution.

I'm sure if you explained to your friend, she will be ok with it.
As Plant says, get a little something else as well.

If I was the recipient I would be happy with that Daisy.
You know your friend, do you think she would be?

Daisy you could try covering the stamp page with a pretty craft paper with maybe a scallop edge if its glued in it will look part of it then you could write a nice message or poem on that page

Thank you all for the lovely suggestions. I don't think my craft skills are up to removing or disguising the page with the stamp on it - it would still look doctored.

Last night I ordered her another book, which hopefully she will enjoy. I am going to read the second hand book and then give it to her just because I think she'd like it, not as part of her Christmas present.

Thank you for helping me to make my mind up. xx

I think you have come up with a lovely solution Daisy. After all you did choose the first book because it is one you thought your friend would really like, so the second book is a bonus and a generous gesture. I hope she enjoys both books.
