Daisy, I know what you mean, we should be able to trust, but, with all that is going on it isn't safe, there is a scam here, maybe in the UK too, where a "family" member sends a WhatsApp message asking for money as they have lost card etc etc.

Interesting that they are using someone with an English accent. They usually give instructions to press 1. I get the Amazon ones but always with an accent, I must watch out.

Plant, one of the options was to press 2 to cancel the transactions. Goodness knows what would have happened if I had.

          These scams are evil Daisy.
When they are so convincing no wonder people get caught out.

Thank goodness you were on the ball.

Gem, in the case of the bank scam, yes, but I feel I'm turning into a grumpy, suspicious old hag when I even suspect our very nice pharmacist!

I've had two messages telling me I've been in contact with someone who's tested positive for Covid and to order a test kit. I called the number but it didn't ring out, so I'm assuming it is a scam. As I've got tests in the cupboard I'm certainly not ordering any!

You have got to be so vigilant these days haven't you? Especially when you start to suspect legitimate callers.

WeeGranny, I didn't know those Covid test kits scams were still happening, so it's good to be on our guard.

A couple of weeks ago my eBay account was hacked. Some delightful creature bought 3 pairs of hedge trimmers at £50 each on my account. Luckily I have apple pay on my phone so I see each transaction immediately. It took a few days to sort it out, but all is ok now.
Today I am trying to sell a craft paper cutting machine on Market Place. I had a reply and a flurry of messages from a would-be purchaser. All fine until she said she would send the money via a DSV courier, but I would have to pay an insurance before the money was handed over, which she would reimburse. 😳 I replied that I was contacting DSV now and of course she disappeared. I did email DSV, they rang me back and confirmed that they only deal with companies, and no money couriers. DSVExpress is a fraudulent company. Beware!

We had something for sale on Market place a couple of months ago.
Loads were offering to buy it via a courier service. We just ignored those.

I find all these scams very worrying. I hate selling things online and avoid it as much as possible.

Grauntie, what a good job you were suspicious.

Ladies the new scam is a text telling you to pay a parking fine from your local council.

I received one about half hour ago , luckily my phone flashes up scam alerts so I reported it and blocked it
                    Just be aware ladies .

I have had two, man, pro-porting to be a policeman saying they had a person in custody who claimed to be a family member using my card. They try anything.

I agree Nan2 and Plant, they think up new things to try all the time.

I answered the phone this afternoon to a young lady who told me we would be receiving a blocker for our phone which filters out all scam calls and protects us from hackers. She said we would receive the paperwork in the next few days at which point alarm bells rang! I asked how much, she said if we were pensioners we would qualify for half price, weren’t we lucky! Not £350, but £125! I hadn’t agreed to anything anyway, and although she had an address it was the wrong one. she tried so hard not to let me get a word in. After I ended the call with a very firm ‘no’,I wondered how many folk end up agreeing to this without realising they have just agreed to buy something unnecessary at a ludicrous price. I also thought she should be ashamed. There must be other honest work.

                      Graunti,
There are so many of these horrible people around ,
Just this afternoon my elderly neighbours phoned B someone had rang to ask them questions said it was a survey for the local council and if they gave their details after the survey they would get £50 put into their bank account,
Our neighbour had the good sense to say he was busy and hung up,
B told him to ignore it if they ring back or to hang up,

How these people sleep at night is beyond me 🤬

Grauntie, it's horrible, isn't it. Even when we realise and don't fall for whatever the scam is it leaves a nasty taste in your mouth.

I often wonder whether their mothers know what they do for a living - they've got no shame and no scruples.

So many people are taken in by these things.
I agree with you Grauntie, there must be better ways to make a living.
