    SCAMS - Report them here!

I have started this thread so we have somewhere to report new scams.

A couple of weeks ago my eBay account was hacked. Some delightful creature bought 3 pairs of hedge trimmers at ยฃ50 each on my account. Luckily I have apple pay on my phone so I see each transaction immediately. It took a few days to sort it out, but all is ok now.
Today I am trying to sell a craft paper cutting machine on Market Place. I had a reply and a flurry of messages from a would-be purchaser. All fine until she said she would send the money via a DSV courier, but I would have to pay an insurance before the money was handed over, which she would reimburse. ๐Ÿ˜ณ I replied that I was contacting DSV now and of course she disappeared. I did email DSV, they rang me back and confirmed that they only deal with companies, and no money couriers. DSVExpress is a fraudulent company. Beware!

We had something for sale on Market place a couple of months ago.
Loads were offering to buy it via a courier service. We just ignored those.

I find all these scams very worrying. I hate selling things online and avoid it as much as possible.

Grauntie, what a good job you were suspicious.

      Thanks Oma.

I agree Nan2 and Plant, they think up new things to try all the time.

I answered the phone this afternoon to a young lady who told me we would be receiving a blocker for our phone which filters out all scam calls and protects us from hackers. She said we would receive the paperwork in the next few days at which point alarm bells rang! I asked how much, she said if we were pensioners we would qualify for half price, werenโ€™t we lucky! Not ยฃ350, but ยฃ125! I hadnโ€™t agreed to anything anyway, and although she had an address it was the wrong one. she tried so hard not to let me get a word in. After I ended the call with a very firm โ€˜noโ€™,I wondered how many folk end up agreeing to this without realising they have just agreed to buy something unnecessary at a ludicrous price. I also thought she should be ashamed. There must be other honest work.

      Graunti,
There are so many of these horrible people around ,
Just this afternoon my elderly neighbours phoned B someone had rang to ask them questions said it was a survey for the local council and if they gave their details after the survey they would get ยฃ50 put into their bank account,
Our neighbour had the good sense to say he was busy and hung up,
B told him to ignore it if they ring back or to hang up,

How these people sleep at night is beyond me ๐Ÿคฌ

Grauntie, it's horrible, isn't it. Even when we realise and don't fall for whatever the scam is it leaves a nasty taste in your mouth.

I often wonder whether their mothers know what they do for a living - they've got no shame and no scruples.

So many people are taken in by these things.
I agree with you Grauntie, there must be better ways to make a living.

This morning I had a call supposed to be from Amazon saying someone in California has purchased a iPhone and I pad from my Amazon account ,
So I played along with it for a while , he said his name was Clifford ( in a very strong Indian accent)
He then said Amazon had sent me a security code by text and to check my messages and give him the secure code.
Sure enough a text with the code.
At this point I told him I don't have a Amazon account and that I knew he Was a scammer,
Well he tried all ways to persuade me he was genuinely from Amazon ,
All the while me just saying over and over your a scammer,
This went on for a good 5 minutes till he eventually got sick and hung up.

Well while I was keeping him on the phone he was leaving someone else alone ,
I managed to waste some of his time ๐Ÿ˜

Oma, the awful thing is so many people fall for these scams and the scammers are getting ever more devious. Well done on sorting Clifford out and keeping him from other calls for a while.

Oma, it is very rare that I get them, then I ignore them if I do.

I get notifications that it's scam calls and usually just block them but I thought I would have a bit of fun this morning ๐Ÿ˜
He has rang back twice since , well I assume it was the same call centre just with different phone numbers,
                    I just blocked them.

Great Oma, thatโ€™s how to deal with them.

Well done Oma! Sometimes I do that, or leave the phone off the hook for a bit until they realise they are talking to no one and eventually end the call

Sadly people do get taken in though. My friend T who was far from stupid was taken in to the tune of a couple of hundred pounds once when he thought he was paying Microsoft to correct a genuine problem.

Another scam doing the rounds is the one inviting you to apply for the winter fuel allowance! That is an automatic payment and you donโ€™t need to apply for it, but the message is very convincing!
Believe you can and you're halfway there.
