I hate September, it signals the end of summer!!

Oma, my mum would have been 97 on 26th.

A couple of friends birthdays this month, a meal out to celebrate one of them. A couple of hospital appointments for OH.
Maybe a couple of days away, but nothing arranged yet.

I begin the month with an opticians appointment!

Gem, I agree. September is the end of summer and we have all those months of cold, dark days to face. It makes me feel quite miserable.

It's a quiet birthday month for us - a niece's birthday on the 3rd, and that's all. Dentists for me on the 9th, plus usual hospital appointments, and OH has the dentist on the 23rd.

On the 18th we're having a day out in London, and going to Buckingham Palace.

A bit of everything here, from hospital appointments to holidays.
Someone said to me this morning “it’s the Bers now, I love the Bers! (September,October, etc.)

Grauntie, I've never heard the expression The Bers before, but it makes sense. I hate the onset of winter (unlike your Ber friend) but I think November is the worst month. It always seems endless, grey and dark.

I agree Daisy. Not fond of January and February either. I do not like grey days or being cold. The only good thing is a hearty casserole and dumplings or a jacket potato, mince tart and custard, cottage pie etc., parsnips, how I love parsnips, but somehow they seem all wrong in summer. All veg is better eaten in its season, don’t you agree?

I am not a salad lover so bring on the hearty dinners. I am an October baby

Grauntie, I agree with you over January and February as well. Yes, seasonal eating is the way to go. When we were children most food was seasonal, and mostly grown in the UK, and it makes sense. I don't fancy any of those meals in the summer, but I'm already starting to switch to them now it's so much colder. It's a chicken tray bake tonight. I remember my dad didn't like stocking parsnips in our shop until after the first frost - he said the flavour was much better then. Parsnip soup is one of my favourites for a cold day. I think more thought should be given to seasonal eating. We'll have to start a campaign!

Plant I was bemoaning at the library this morning that they kept banging on about autumn on the local radio. The manager said she loves autumn and I asked when her birthday is. October was the answer. My mum's was the end of the September and she loved autumn.

Daisy and I are summer babies and love summer. Not very scientific study I know but it seems to follow quite often .

October child here. Daisy your Pa was right about the first frost. It makes them sweeter.
