    Glasses woes!

I think Oma has probably seen my OH's sellotaped glasses

These are over the counter type reading glasses which she bought online some years ago. They broke, she sent them back. The next ones broke and they wouldn't replace those.
The lens falls out unless held in place by sellotape. We have often been with friends and someone will ask ' Is that sellotape on your glasses?'
    Very embarrassing.

Yesterday the sellotape gave up the ghost so the lens won't stay in, rendering the glasses useless .
On the same day the arm fell off her prescription distance glasses! Not a screw out unfortunately, broken off somehow.
So now she had no glasses apart from sunglasses.
We went the hotel reception after dinner last night, borrowed tape and scissors, so the reading glasses are functional again .
We are hoping it's bright enough for her to drive home in her prescription sunglasses on Tuesday. If not she will have to manage with single armed glasses!
Our prescriptions are totally different so she can't wear my glasses, and I'm only licensed to drive an automatic car so can't drive hers!

    What a predicament Gem.
Maybe its time for her to invest in some new ones.

Absolutely Nan2! I say this constantly.

The prescription distance ones are not that old, but we aren't sure if they are still under warranty. We'll check when we get back.

Oh Gem, it's the sort of problem I hate - I do feel for your OH. I have to nag my OH to get new glasses and to get enough to back up losses or breakages. The off-the-peg reading glasses are very cheap and quite good I think, and having a spare pair of prescription glasses in the car is useful.

Fingers crossed it's bright and sunny when you're driving home.

          Thanks Daisy.
She has just managed to watch the Wimbledon final with them on, so fingers crossed as the forecast is 70% chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms when we land!

What about super glue just so they are held together to drive home ,
Im sure you will be able to get some in Malta .

B keeps an old pair in the car usually but I noticed when he cleaned the glove box out he had taken them out , I must remind him to put them back .

B just said an elastic band , one end round the glasses other end round her ear 🤣🤣🤣 he’s full of little tips like that 🤣
Like gaffer tape on his slippers 🙄😁

Oma, I remember the saga about gaffa tape on his slippers. Much like my OH who wears shoes out to the stage where he needs superglue to hold them together, but they still fall apart.

OH bought 2 pairs of reading glasses in WH Smith at Malta airport. Hopefully now the taped on lens ones will be binned!

We were back too late for the opticians yesterday and she is playing golf away today and tomorrow so it will be Friday before she can go in to see what if anything they can do . It's sunny today so driving in sunglasses is fine. She dug out the distance glasses with the previous prescription and says they are OK, so she is playing golf in those for now.

Gem, fingers crossed he can manage until tomorrow. Two pairs of reading glasses is good.

I keep a pair of previous prescription glasses in OH's car, just in case I have to drive it and haven't got my current ones. To be honest, I can't tell any difference in the distance vision!

OH tried to repair the arm from her distance glasses but it wasn't successful.

She attempted the repair after she was told at Boot's Opticians that she couldn't have the frames repaired, and as she hadn't taken out the one year warranty she wasn't eligible for free replacement frames. We didn't feel this was right. I took out warranty which cost extra but that was to protect the lenses (after ruining my last ones in Florida) Broken frames are something which should be covered under the normal one year guarantee we felt.

Anyway we went back in today. She was told could only have the same style of frame, and that would cost £75. She pointed out that she has never had problems with any of her previous frames, treats glasses well, keeps then in a case, has never dropped them etc. The very obnoxious man in charge said 'Can I stop you there. I saw you remove your sunglasses from your head with one hand,. That weakens them'. (this was irrelevant as it wasn't sunglasses which was the problem, and she doesn't wear her other glasses on top of her head) He seemed to be going on and on implying it was all OH's fault the glasses had fallen apart I was sitting near the door but could hear all this so got up and said 'How else do people take glasses off their head? We all do that and it has no bearing on this!'
In the end he (grudgingly )said as it was within the one year period, OH was entitled to free replacement frames. Why couldn't someone have said that from the beginning?! He kept saying as you are JUST within the one year period, as if that made any difference. He was a horrible man and neither of us will agree to see him when we next go there. Everyone else at that branch is lovely. What a miserable person with no customer skills. You would think he had to pay for the frames out of his own pocket!

Anyway, OH now has 2 pairs of over the counter reading glasses, and will soon have replacement frames for her prescription reading glasses.

Gem, that man was out of order. If S's glasses were within the guarantee period, even by one day, they have to honour it, and I would definitely send in a complaint that I had been treated very rudely. Even worse, if that was taking place in the public customer area where others could hear.

Regardless of how she takes her glasses off they were within the one year slot.
Jobs worth at its finest there I think ,
I would put a customer complaint in , what if it was someone who was intimidated and couldn’t fight back or left the shop distressed,
                          Not on in my opinion.

That rude, unhelpful man was certainly out of order and should be reported.
