Sum1, I think that's a good point, well made. Sadly we've given up watching most tv nature programmes because of the intrusive background music. Even the current David Attenborough one had us fiddling about with the volume trying to get a balance between his very soft voice and the far from soft music!
I think part of the problem in the Forest is that there is 'alien' noise much of the time - it's ringed with busy roads and on the flight path to Bournemouth airport. These get picked up and amplified by the recording equipment, sadly. On the first full day of the first lockdown in March 2020 I was walking the dog and the difference was noticeable. No road noise, no aircraft, just perfect silence apart from natural sounds. Within a couple of days even the air was fresher.
