    Cash anyone?

Nanto2girls's post about the new coin made me think of change and cash in general.

I never have any do you?

Before the pandemic I used my card for some things but all smaller shopping was done in cash. I regularly withdrew cash from the cash machine. The when I started to do mum's shopping she liked to pay me in cash so I used that and rarely drew much out, using what she paid me.
At this moment I think I have 20 pence, and a pound coin in my car for shopping trollies!
I keep meaning to get some cash for smaller purchases. I just got out of the habit during lockdown restrictions. Even now some places don't want cash. The pool at the leisure centre will only take card payments, even for a single coffee.

Gem, I think lots of people have abandoned the use of cash, but I try to use cash as much as possible. Not everybody wants or can use plastic and with banks closing down all over the place cash is in danger of disappearing completely.

We withdraw cash regularly and use it for all sorts of things. This week alone, I've paid for this month's dog training classes, paid the hairdresser, plus tip, OH has bought a paper, some odds and ends in our local traditional ironmongers, bananas and other odds and ends.

I agree Daisy, we really should use cash more and I must get back into the habit.
Our hairdresser prefers to be paid in cash so we try to make sure we have enough between us to pay her .

I can understand why the supermarkets and other big stores try to discourage using cash - it's expensive for them to handle it for one thing. But for little shops (like my DS2's) it costs them a lot of money, relative to their takings, to accept plastic.

The fees to retailers have shot up in the last few months, plus with more people not using cash, their credit card etc costs have increased 4 or 5-fold. Eventually, of course, they will have to pass this on to the customer in increased prices. I think it's another reason for as many people as possible to pay with cash. The high street shops have enough to contend with at the moment.

Hubby never withdraws cash, always uses his card.

I use a bit of both. I like to have some cash in my purse for little odds and sods.
When it comes to bigger payments, such as the supermarket i alway pay by card.
Our hairdresser likes cash as well,so when she is due,i always make sure we have enough to pay her.

Cards (or phones) are used for most payments here, it is strange really as in a few years the youth won't know what "cash" is.

I usually have some change in a purse when out and about for the stalls etc, then, even with those you can pay by phone, they have a code we can scan.

You seem to be even more cashless over there than we are Lizzie.
The tempting thing with cards I think is how easy and quick it is. One tap and you are done!
It also makes me feel that I spend less. The money for the hairdresser seems a large amount of cash to me, but I wouldn't think twice if it was on my card!

I always use cash , never use my card unless I'm shopping online , lots of our small shops prefer cash as it costs them more if its done by card . I like to know what I'm spending it's easy to forget when your just flashing a card .
Our DD and GS never carry cash . Only time GS has cash is on a Monday when we give him his petrol money .
When B went to pay for GSs car last year the garage wouldn't take cash he had to bank transfer . I know it will come a time when it's only your card or phone but I will hang on by my teeth till I have no option

Oma, same here! I don't think either of our GSs use cash, and GD2 uses her card for everything at school like lunches, snacks etc.

When buying on line I never use the credit/debit card, we just use our bank cards then scan the codes.

I always like to have at least £50 in cash in my purse and try to get some loose change when I can. I pay my hairdresser in cash, my games afternoon needs cash and of course the odd collection box. I use cards for my shopping and on-line shopping. Daisy I hadn’t realised how the small shops would prefer cash, I must remember that.

Plant on our local Face book page lots of little independent shops in our area put posts on to ask people to pay with cash ,
As Daisy said it eats into their profits all the bank charges ,
I must admit I had no idea till I read about it .

Thanks for that Oma, I will remember to make sure I have cash. Up till now I have felt a nuisance paying with cash in the local small shops.
