    Egg Craft

Oma mentioned this in another thread and I am fascinated. Please tell me more Oma. Where on earth do you buy the egg shells for a start? Not that I will try it, I’m far too heavy handed. How do you cut them? They must be very expensive to make, but very beautiful I’m thinking.

I will get some out and post a pic Grauntie , although they are not as good as they were when made but I keep a few as a reminder ,
I just used regular Quail, Hen, Duck eggs , Goose and Ostrich eggs have to be bought from suppliers ,
They are cut using a Dremmel craft saw /drill cutter ,Then painted and decorated using small craft ribbons ,hindges, beads and such ,
Quite expensive and very fiddly but I got so much pleasure doing them , now with having hands that shake and unable to hold small things I'm no longer able

These are all I have left of the Many many many ones I made ,they all open even the little blue Quail egg it has a tiny hinge at the back .
Sadly when I have taken them out I notice the Twin pram is broken and cracked but it is quite a good few years old.
I am just a beginner compared to some makers , some are unbelievable they are so good ,
The Ostrich eggs I made into Clocks with some although I never kept one for myself .

Picture doesn't do them justice , the White , yellow and Green ones are sparkly

Thank you Qwerty , I miss not being able to do things like this now ,
I would try again but I cant feel little beads and things on the tips of my fingers now and you have to have a very steady hand to cut fragile eggs

It must be sad that you can't do this now, but to have done it all is amazing.

Lovely Oma! I'd never have the patience to produce work like that!

Oma - they are exquisite. You really are very talented. I'm like WG - I wouldn't have the patience - even supposing I had the skill! If I saw them in a collection, say in a museum, I'd think they were Russian or French and assume people didn't have such skills these days. It's really sad that you can't make them now, but lovely to look back on - take care of them ones you have left.
