There are a few lovely posts on the Chatbox about crafting, which many members do. I thought this topic deserved a thread of its own .
Please tell us what you do

I used to do a lot of knitting. If I wasn't making things for the grandchildren, I used to knit for a lady who had a wool stall. She used to take orders, and she had quite a few of us who would make the garments for her.
Then, something called the internet came into my life, and it took over from the knitting.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.
Well, I'm pretty useless at what I would call 'crafting' - I can't knit, sew or crochet, I've tried making cards etc but they just look as though they've been thrown together by a 5 year old. I used to paint years ago, and have recently started to experiment with that again. The pyrography came about because OH wants some of his wooden creations embellished with it and I tried it out at his wood turning club a little while ago and enjoyed it. Before you have images of me waving a red hot poker scorching all in my path have a peep at the little gadget I use:
I love cross stitch and I did a college course on sugar craft , I made all the flowers for DD wedding cake , my best craft was Egg craft it's sort of like Faberge with anything from quail eggs to Ostrich eggs involving a lot of cut out work but now with my wobbly hands holding the dremmel tool to cut with isn't as easy as it was, I have done most crafts over the years but never fancied card making , I loved doing Salt dough craft too
I enjoy drawing and painting and have also made lots of scrapbooks over the years. Now I have rediscovered sewing and crochet and really enjoy hooking away in the evenings . I have made blankets, shawls and have just finished a bag to keep all my wool in. (That should read..in which to keep my wool)

Oooh I love that tool Daisy!
I'll have a go at any craft. The one thing I have found difficult is knotting as in sailors knots. I aim to have a bash at machine embroidery as soon as I have sourced a machine. Sewing is my first love though.
Women are like tea bags; you never know how strong they are until they are put in hot water.

GM - Machine embroidery sounds interesting. If I had to pick up a needle and thread to do anything it would be embroidery - but machine embroidery sounds like a different - and exciting - world of possibilities.
What appeals to me about pyrography is that everything is a 'one off' because every piece of wood you work on is different. I'm hoping OH is going to trust me with some of his creations or decorate soon!

In my head I seem to think I am artistic and can do all sorts of lovely crafty things. In reality, not really!
I started to do mosaic once, inspired by beautiful mosaics I saw in other countries. I bought tiles and a little hammer and special cement, a book about it, etc etc. I finished one small area in my then back garden, and years later I have moved and didn't even bring my stuff with me!
I have done a few cross stitch pictures. I enjoyed doing them and the finished works looked nice. I haven't done any for so long however, and my eyesight is much worse than it was in those days. I may take it up again one day, I haven't totally given up on the idea.

I don't think I have a creative bone in my body, except for writing, and I have published a few articles in the past. I can also sew, or used to be able to. When we visited Canada we went to see this glorious open day of the quilts the locals had made in this particular town of Canmore, near Banff.
Truly I've never seen anything like it! I was overwhelmed with the artistry and the effort, from the smallest to the largest, they were magnificent.
So I went to the local quilt shop and bought some packable quilting to take back home and start working on. That was 2006 and they remain unopened!
I've got a business head, DD is the creative artistic one.
Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. T.S Eliot
In our chat section Oma asked me what craft project I've just finished. My DD1 asked me to transfer my GS's drawing of him & his teacher onto fabric so I could free machine stitch over it. I added words like..."just lovely, kind, fun, proud of us" etc. Using small font rubber stamps. It turned out well & I put it in a cheap but cheerful frame. She loved it. GS is giving it to his teacher tomoro on his last day
Off to bed now but I'll check back on this thread. What a talented bunch of Grans.
