    Half term plans?

Do you have any plans with your grandchildren for the October half term, or will they be away on holiday?

I will have GS1 for a full day, and overnight. He has been hankering for a sleepover for ages.

I am also having GD for a full day - by herself! I am having her on GS2's nursery day. Much as I love him, I do miss my time with GD, so I'm very happy about this

I have no plans for the days with either GC yet. I need to get thinking!

I haven't even thought about it yet! It seems as though they have only just gone back after the summer holidays.

I expect I will be having both GDs as usual during school holidays, but don't know about the boys yet.

Aggie - it does seem silly just after the holidays, but it sounds as though your GS had hit the nail on the head.

With no school age children in the family now I never know when it is half term, so no different for us.

If the weather is bad then the two eldest will probably come here instead of going to work with their Mother. No doubt DD2 and her brood will be here at some point as well. I shall gird my loins and think of England.

GM - it sounds like a busy week in the GM household, then.

We are going to DD's for most of the week.My GD won't be there as she is on a school trip to New York! My sister and BIL will visit us there for a day They live the other side of the country to us and as BIL is not very fit and they don't drive we rarely see them.As DD's is half way between us they hire a"helping hands" driver to bring them to DD's.

Clover - that will be lovely. One of the things that gets harder as we get older is keeping in touch with family who live a long way away. I bet your GD will have a wonderful time in New York - what an amazing school trip!

Yes Daisy,I asked DD if GD's trip was educational but she said it was more of a "jolly" but it's bound to be educational as well.We are lucky that DD can afford the trip though GD did have to raise a significant sum herself. She's quite in demand for babysitting locally which helped. The other evening she earned £40 but it was a long shift which included getting the childrens'tea and getting them to bed.The parents didn't return til midnight. We feel safe with her doing it as the parents are usually known to DD and it is only in the village so in an emergency DD and SIL are on hand. On this occasion GD heard a strange noise in the kitchen so rang DD who offered to send SIL round but GD stuck it out and it transpired that the cat had brought a mouse in.

Sorry I seem to have gone off topic. In the "old" place I would have had my wrist slapped.

Clover - your GD is a very sensible and mature young lady and well done to her for earning so much of the money herself. I believe that all school trips are educational in some way. They may not help directly with say GCSE Geography or something, but they will learn about other things which are just as important. On the Business Admin course I taught on we used to take first year students to London in the first term, and it was surprising how many of them had never been to London, or even on a train. A lot of them had never been on the underground either. Some of them also learned how to cope when they missed the train home!! (That was accidental, not planned!)

DS1 is on holiday for the week, so the boys are taken care of. They are going somewhere in Devon, with my OH, on Friday to stand in a muddy field (probably in pouring rain) to watch a jet car! Not my idea of fun, but .....

We'll have both GDs here on Monday and Tuesday, but the rest of the week is free. I hope the weather stays dry so we can get out a bit.
