    Activities in school holidays

I've mentioned elsewhere that my 16 year old GS2 is doing a holiday scheme programme with a mixture of activities and is enjoying it very much.

When our children were young there never seemed much for them to do unless mum and dad organised things for them, but now there seem to be all sorts of activities on offer.

My GD1 has just finished a week-long theatre course and her mum and dad went to see their performance last night. GD2 is taking cookery lessons run by a lady who was a chef at a local very famous hotel. She did the first morning yesterday and loved every minute.

There are hundreds of free activities organised within our county taking place in schools etc, but there doesn't seem to be a single source of information about all that's on offer.

How are your school-age GCs enjoying the holidays?

GS1 is booked onto a mixed martial arts holiday club for a week. He goes to MMA each week so I presume it is with them. I know my GS and I feel sure by the Tuesday night he will be bored with it! Time will tell.

He is on in Scotland with his parents visiting his Granny for a few days this week. They have family holiday the last week of the holidays.
The other GC are going on holiday next week. GD also had a few days with her friend and mum in a tent last week.

OH, myself, our GC, our friends C and P and their 3 younger GC all have tradition of a day in Filey each summer, which takes place the week after next.

They all have lots of things arranged with family and friends but no other organised events as far as I know.
I took GD and GS2 to an art workshop yesterday which was fun.

Gem, that's a great mix of activities for all your GCs, and you! I hope your GS1 enjoys the week of martial arts better than you fear.

I think it's such a shame that it's not easy to find many of these activities and there must be parents and grandparents desperate to find fun things for the children.

Not exactly exciting but tomorrow DIL2 and I are taking GD1 for her school uniform - a timed appointment at the only shop which supplies it. DIL has already heard that they have run out of several items in the smallest sizes, which is what GD will need. Fortunately her other gran is on standby with her needle and thread.

I think its brilliant that there are all these activities for school children.
Looking forward to hearing how they all get on.
