    A Special Moment with GD2

GD2 was very tired after her first day back at school yesterday. Mummy had picked up her and her sister, and I collected them from the shop. On the way home GD2 asked if I would help her get changed. Usually she's very independent and the routine when they get home is to take off shoes and coats and put them away, then go and get changed out of their uniforms. GD2 has totally refused any help with dressing or undressing for about the last 2 years. I said of course I would help her.

Once we were in her bedroom I asked her what she'd like to wear. "Anything" she said, so I popped a pair of leggings, socks and a long-sleeved t-shirt on the radiator, while I helped her get undressed. She was really surprised that the t-shirt was nice and warm when I put it on her, and when we put her leggings on she grinned from ear to ear, and warm socks were another surprise. I was kneeling on the floor with her. She stood up and just leaned into me, gave a huge sigh and all the tension went out of her tired little body, and my eyes got all leaky - from the cold weather, probably!!

That's sweet Daisy , ive always done the same warmed their clothes ,
My Dad was like Qwerty's every morning our clothes were hung across the fire guard in front of the coal fire and when he came up to wake us on a morning we were wrapped in warmed blankets to go down the cold stairs .
Hats gloves and coats warmed the same way before we went out ,

She must have felt in heaven , we forget how the little ones get tired and stressed especially those first days back to school

            What a lovely moment Daisy.

We also warmed our clothes in front of a coal fire.

Sometimes I think children's lives are too busy these days. I can remember going home to mum (before we got the shop) and have a drink and snack, then I was free to go out and play, read, play in the house or just mooch around. Now so many children, out of necessity, go to after-school clubs, or some other form of childcare, or go to say, grandparents' houses, and don't actually get home with mum and/or dad until nearly bedtime. It makes for a long day for them.

I agree Daisy, some happy medium is needed!
I was often bored, and would have appreciated some after school activity one day a week. I had plenty of time to play, read, draw, watch TV to my own timetable though.

Children today seem to have a busy timetable, as you say Daisy, of after school activities and grandparents/childminders. I feel sorry for the ones who go to childminders or after school club every afternoon, it makes for a long school day.

Gem, I also think children need time to be bored and let their minds wander. That's when they get creative or interested in something new.

But I do understand that for most parents these days, work is a necessity. But children only have one go at childhood, and as we all know, time goes by so quickly.

                          Aww, thank you Sunshine. xx

She is a little darling and I think because she's so fiercely independent it was so touching that she wanted help. Love them both to bits.
