    New mattress

We’re thinking about replacing our mattress. Any recommendations? DH was wondering about a Tempur type one, but I thought I’d read somewhere that they can make you hot. Just wondering where to start.

Enfys we have a Tempura one on our spare bed and its lovely its one of the new design that let air flow ,
We did have one of the originals when they came out and at the time I was having awful hot flushes and the mattress felt like I was on fire ,
They have advanced since then though
We have individual pocket sprung ones on our bed that move with you very comfy , but I do think you have to go into store and try laying down on them to get the feel see if it suits you
Im not fat just 6ft too small

Yes, we always do that Oma. It’s never the same as actually sleeping on one though, is it.

We were going to get a new mattress just over 2 years ago.
Then we decided to get a new bed altogether. We have a memory foam mattress
and we find it very comfy.

We've had a memory foam mattress for quite a few years (can't remember how many) and love it. But we'll have to replace it soon - it's more of a forgetting mattress these days - but I'd definitely have another memory foam one.

Enfys we have a pocket sprung mattress with motion isolation which is great as I am a huge fidget . In theory a mattress like that isn’t supposed to make you feel as hot as a memory foam mattress but I still get extremely hot at night so I am not so sure. Saying that the mattress we have is wonderfully comfortable and it’s very, very thick . When I sit on the edge of the bed my feet don’t reach the floor. It’s a bit of a b****r to turn mind .

Now when we stayed at DS’s the mattress there was memory foam which was also comfortable and the added bonus of this mattress was it has ‘ summer and winter ‘ sides . You turn it over in the summer and it’s supposed to be cooler to sleep on but I never got to test that theory out.

I would suggest going to specialist bed shop where you can test mattresses out for yourself. The staff will match you to the best mattress for your taste.

That's what we will get when we need a new mattress GJ. They are called Hypnos mattresses.

I love my bed, I think it is a pocket sprung one, will look at the label tomorrow. It is very deep with drawers underneath, very useful they are too

We’d looked at the Hypnos beds, we will start trawling the shops. Thanks for the info.

Our mattress is soft & thick, deep. Sprung with a memory foam top. I've also added another memory foam layer on top. (Sounds like The Princess & the Pea' story.😂 I hear that mattresses should be changed every 6yrs. Good luck with your search Enfys ... it's a really important piece of kit.

Ours is a Silentnight memory foam with an extra layer on the top so very deep and comfy and like Plant we have 4 drawers underneath which are a godsend for bedding storage, the only downfall is I cannot have standard fitted sheets I have to do what Zizi suggested a few yrs ago and buy the deeper sided fitted sheets but that is the only downfall, now we are told to change our mattresses every 6/8yrs do you remember our parents having their bed & mattress for whole of their married life in some cases.

We have a mattress with built in memory foam topper. It is no turn mattress (although we turn it top to bottom) as the under underside is hard. It is indeed very comfortable. It is also very warm. We never wear anything in bed, and have a lightweight duvet on and heating on the lowest. We are still too hot!
Fine for some, but we wouldn't go for this again.

Our memory foam mattress is a no turn one as well. The last 2 beds we have had,
have 4 drawers, and they are so usefull.

Just looked and my bed is a Hypnos, one side is firmer than the other. Very deep with the divan base.
