Do you split your luggage between suitcases?

Every time I hear about suitcases going missing, especially on the outward journey, I think we should mix up our belongings. We never do, we just take our individual cases, containing our own stuff.
I intend to make sure we have at least a change of clothing, a few sets of undies and a swimsuit (if its that sort of holiday) in the others case next time.

I always do that, but on our last trip, but my luggage didn't want to come home!! Finally arrived a couple of days late. The worrying thing was that the suitcase which arrived ((OH's), had all the dirty washing, so I'd no excuse not to do it!!Horrible feeling though when your case isn't on the belt.

We always have separate cases ,
I keep saying we must mix them , we did on the way back from Germany but that was only because we needed his case to put all the food in he brought back

We always mix ours - half and half and I always put spare undies plus tshirt in my hand luggage. OH thinks I m mad but one day I’m sure both cases will go off on their own holidays without us. I don’t bother on the way home. 😁

We also mix ours (well I do as his packing prowess seems to desert him at holiday time). Like Daisy I make sure that we have at least a change of undies in hand luggage and I also take a change of clothes for getting off the plane at both ends if we have been on long haul. I am a good packer but need to have it done about two days before we go or I fret and worry.

Daisy for many years I carried spare undies and a roll on deodorant (In the days it wasn't classed as dangerous liquid!) in my hand luggage.Somewhere along the line I stopped!

Gem I have found that using hand sanitiser if you don’t have deodorant works in an emergency.

I try and pack half and half ever since DS’s case was picked up by mistake. He had saved up from his paper round and bought loads of jeans, tops etc in Florida. Luckily it was a genuine mistake and sorted out over a couple of days by the airline but involved motorcycle couriers etc but really brought it home to me how easy it is for mistakes to be made. I also try to ensure our luggage stands out with fluorescent straps and bows tied on top often in clashing colours.

I always remember DD1, in her 20's going to stay with a male friend who had moved to New York. She got a cab to his apartment as he was working. Her luggage went astray, and staying with a male, no toiletries or clothes to borrow! She didn't know the area so daren't go out to buy anything in case she got lost! She phoned me most upset.
Her luggage arrived a few days later and she got £80 compensation, which was a fair amount almost 20 years ago.

We always put brightly coloured straps round out cases, and those of you who were in Brum in September were probably dazzled by my new carry on bag - a lurid pattern and bright pink zips! No-one would want to pick that up - it would destroy their street cred for 20 years!
