Gem we used to have static caravan at Hornsea I like the place and often go back we have fish and chips at Sullivan's fish restaurant and a little look round the Freeport there , the beach is quite a nice beach and the sea isn't too far out happy memories of when the kids were small it's our nearest resort apart from Filey but not a lover of that

With summer beckoning, perhaps we should all get out and enjoy our 'local' beaches - even though I know for some people it's a long trek!!

I remember as a child, growing up 70+ miles inland the excitement of the first sighting of the sea. I'd watch the sky, looking out for where is was always lighter and somehow bigger, over the water. I still get that little thrill of excitement, silly old me!!

I once went on a beach holiday to Florida with someone from Illinois. She lived a very long way from any coast and hadn't seen the sea for years. She was so excited the whole time, just to be at the beach! We chose a hotel on the beach for that reason. That made me realise that 43 miles is no distance from a beach
