Devon and beyond !! Excited just a tad.

On Friday we are off to Ipplepen near Totnes in Devon with DD,SIL and girls for a week Staying at heron cottage. Girls are very excited and have informed me we will be swimming every evening in the heated pool . We will take them on the somerset and dorset steam train, think Gramps is more excited about that than the girls. The cottage sleeps 6 with cosy log burner for the chilly evenings. All mod cons, think we will be eating out more than in. We insist on buying most of the meals out as DD would not take anything towards the cost of the cottage. Of course property browsing is on the agenda in and around the village DD want's to be in. She has even organised a small Tesco delivery of the essentials for our arrival. I think Shiloh is going to enjoy some very long and enjoyable walks. None of us mind the cold as long as we do not get to much of the wet stuff. We arrive home on the 17th and 2 weeks later on March 1st I am going to be spending 17 days away with my friend on a cruise. Not the carribbean (thankfully) been there, done that twice. No- very exotic Asia. We fly to Turkey, then onto Singapore staying overnight in a 5* hotel We hope to get to Raffles and enjoy a gin sling, has to be done doesn't it ! We then join our ship and sail to Thailand, then onto Malaysia and Vietnam. Being a sun lover I have checked out the temperatures and average 30-34c . We have our usual outside stateroom with private balcony. Neither of us are relishing the long haul but to get to these exotic places its part of the deal unfortunately, and there will be all those lovely airport shops to browse in while we wait. I know I am a lucky lady, but boy I am ready for this holiday. So once home from Devon it will be a mad dash getting organised for the cruise,I have naughtily bought 2 more lovely evening dresses and already have lots of the usual holiday staples, shorts,t shirts, bikinis, sarongs etc. Just have to get hubs into the loft to seek out all my other lovely evening clothes and fancy pant shoes. I know they will cripple me,but hey ho it's into the lift and down to dinner not as though I have to walk far. Can't wait for the adventure of visiting these wonderful places, have friends who have and they have told me how wonderful they are.

LG - Isn't retirement great! Just think, this time last year you were counting down the days, and now look at you - globe trotting from Devon to Vietnam and lots in between!

My BIL and his wife spend most winters backpacking round Asia for 3 months or so because the weather is so beautiful, so you should have no worries there, but you will be doing it in luxury.

I love Devon. We had a lovely holiday there a few years ago.
I think its so handy that you can organize a supermarket grocery delivery, it makes things so much easier . I can remember when I was a child and we used to go on a self catering holiday mum and dad used to load up the car with a weeks worth of grocery that she had been buying over the weeks prior to our trip. It was mostly, cereals and tinned food, oh not forgetting the odd Vesta dried curry !!!

Clover we are on the Mariner of the Sea,one of the fleet with Royal Caribbean. My friend as a seasoned voyager is a platinum member so lots of perks. Mimi strangely I used to love Vesta chow mein, thankfully my taste buds have got more refined these days.

Wow! I envy you the cottage but not the cruise. I'm not one for dressing up & OH isn't good on water. It sounds wonderful tho Libra. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time, especially now you can go away knowing you've got a super kitchen to come back to. Not that you'll want to go back😂😎

Libra, having a closer look at your photo and caption I should have seen the name of the ship.

Nana asregards dressing up on a cruise my OH hates it as well so last time he wore an ordinary suit and tie, which was perfectly acceptable ( P and O) as did quite a few of the other men. I just wore the sort of dress you would wear for a wedding and some evenings just smart black trousers and a nice top. If you like the more glamorous option that is wonderful too.
Not much to be done about a dislike of water though

Smart dress is adequate, not many people dress to impress on board these days. I do like the opportunity to wear a long dress and heel though.

I think I would be spending a lot of money in excess baggage for the flight - with all those opportunities to dress up if you want to, I'd want to!!!! I live most of my life in casual things, but just occasionally it's nice to dig out the glitz (not that I've got much!)
