Travel Insurance for those with pre existing medical conditions

One of the drawbacks to getting older is that is a lucky person who has no medical condition and isn't on medication of some sort.

This bumps up insurance premiums vastly. Sometimes people don't go on holiday as the premiums are too high. Others go with no insurance (very risky) or do not declare their conditions. If you don't declare it you may as well have no cover, as your insurance policy will be null and void if any undeclared condition is discovered.

We were looking for a company with covered medical conditions but was reasonably priced. I found this recommended on a health forum. OH and I have both just taken out annual multi trip cover including USA and Canada. Her cover costs £164. This includes golf club cover, as she plans a golf break aboard next year. Mine was £122.
Considering the cheapest single trip cover to Spain for someone with OHs condition was just under £200, we think this is great.
We both chose the most expensive of 3 options, with no excesses to pay.It is available even cheaper than this.

We're the Number 1 Rated Travel Insurance provider on Trustpilot. We deliver award winning specialist travel insurance at a reasonable price.

Really difficult to find Travel Insurance that covers needs of those who are not in full health. We found

Blue Bear Travel Insurance provides Single Trip, Annual Multi Trip and Longstay Travel Insurance. For Europe, a worldwide cruise, or cover for Winter Sports.

a few years ago and go with them now. OH's prostate cancer plus his recent fall cost us £74.00 and I was £35.00 after my knee surgery. Obviously more for the States and further afield this was for Europe.

Thanks Elisi. Yes, we looked at single trip first and that woukd have been around that price. As we hope to go to the states within the next year, and OH to Portugal golfing, annual was our best bet.

We got a really good deal with USA trip for 3 of us £159.00 single trip so was pleased with that, and it was with Johns copd problem and the treatment I had had during the past year due to broken shoulder as you had to confirm hospital visits of any kind,we are looking at Minorca for September and possibly US again during the year so will take out annual next time I always insist on insurance as I have seen the upset it causes when there is no insurance when we lived abroad and people think accidents will never happen to them its devastating and quite frightening.

It's obviously worth shopping around, isn't it. I think different insurers take different views of certain illnesses. There's such a big variation in premiums!

The company we used was started by a lady with breast cancer, who was appalled at the insurance charges when she wanted a holiday after her surgery, and wanted to give others a fairer deal.

Gemini - she definitely understands the issues then. I can't help feeling that a lot of insurance companies pile it on even though the 'pre-existing' condition isn't suddenly going to overwhelm the person on holiday.
