    Travelling in style!

As some of you know we are going on holiday with my daughter, son in law and 2 grandchildren soon. The airport is an hour or less drive away, and we normally park with a company a couple of miles away from the airport and use their shuttle bus.
However we realised that paying parking for 2 cars, plus petrol there and back came to only slightly less than all being driven door to door in a mini bus. It is particularly useful for DD and SIL, saving them from getting the baby and luggage in and out of vehicles.
We intended to drive to DDs, just under half an hours drive away and leave our car there. When we found out that for 10 pounds more they would pick us up first, it was a done deal

That's where my OH scores with his business! Once people have been taken direct from home to the airport they don't want to go back to parking sites or public transport. Especially since the recent reports that vehicles are being parked in muddy fields or supermarket car parks. That being said we caught the train home from BHX after our last holiday!

We always did that when we went on holiday with DD et al! Made sense especially as DD lives over the road. Made the journey to the airport so much easier, especially on our return when we were picked up and taken straight home.

Gem - we've been doing that for several years if we're flying from Heathrow or Gatwick. It takes all the hassle out of the journey to the airport and if you've got an early check-in it saves an overnight in a hotel. Plus when you come home, especially from a long-haul flight, it's wonderful not having to drive. You will definitely feel the benefit!

It's one of those things that make you wonder why you never thought of doing it before. Even better to be picked up individually. It means you can all start getting in the holiday mood together.Youmust really be looking forward to it now Gem.

Fabulous idea Gems we have been doing this for a few years now and it takes away all the stress,we travelled from M/chester to LV via HR for the wedding and it was stressful enough without finding parking and getting to the terminal and from picking up to meeting us when we got back (including a welcome pack of bread, milk and water) was £74.00 for the 3 of us well worth it.

Around here (by Heathrow) they will advertise taxis to Gatwick or other airports for £30 ish and then when you call to book you have to tell them how many bags and what the weigh and then they charge you extra for them, last time I got a quote we had to guess the weights and the total cost was going to be almost £80. To actually get a taxi to Heathrow would cost an absolute fortune even though it is a one stop bus ride. Anyone who wants to can leave their car at mine and either get the one stop bus or if I am available I can take you to the airport.

When we fly from Gatwick I insist that we stay over the night before and park at the hotel. I hate flying from Gatwick.......

We really benefitted from your kindness last summer when we travelled from Heathrow Zizi.

The cost is £145 return including 2 pick ups. As parking is over £50 per car, definitely worth doing. I think GD will be very excited to get in with us already there. At almost 4 months, the baby will just take it in his stride

We noticed how expensive it was in the south when we were down last time Tizzy. Unfortunately OH doesn't earn anywhere near that. Someone was advertising very low rates around here but you had to travel with other random strangers sometimes setting off hours before you needed to. Don't think it caught on.

Never ever take a black cab from Heathrow especially if you are not going a long distance. They will charge you so much money it will make you cry! They don't want to do short distances because it means they lose their place in the queue so pile on the money. They are not supposed to and some of them don't. You can understand it I suppose, they pay for heir place on the rank and can wait a long time from the back of the queue to get to the front. The tube runs from every terminal (I know some of you don't like the tube or the thought of it) and is far cheaper. There is also the Heathrow Express which is expensive and is a tube in disguise.

Come instead to my parking space and I will only charge you .......... Nothing

Well, from here to Stanstead was £250 one way!!! I was horrified and didn't do any more research as we are stuck in the middle of the country and it is really expensive to get to any airport! Other than East Midlands which is hopeless as there is no where we want to fly to from there
