    Flight socks

    Do you wear them?

Sometimes my ankles swell after a flight, especially when I fly to somewhere hot. They do go down within a day or so, and I have never won flight socks. When I went to Boston and Cape Cod last summer they were particularly bad, and I vowed to wear flight socks for any flight of that length in future.

We are going to Spain in 3 weeks time. Not a long flight, but I am beginning to think perhaps I should wear some.

Any advice welcome. I think you measure your leg and buy the appropriate size ?

I've never worn them Gem, even on long flights to America and the Caribbean, but have seen quite a few wearing them on long flights. Found a bit of info on Google.

Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Gem - My niece who is in her 20s had DVT about 3 years ago, even though she hadn't been in a plane in the previous 12 months. She had to wear special stockings for 2 years and has to have an injection before she flies anywhere. It was extremely painful. Having seen how she suffered I think anything that helps to avoid DVT is worthwhile. Red face, though, because I totally forgot when we went to the States last year!

We always wear flight socks, especially since our DD got a DVT after a long flight from USA. DH had a DVT even though we hadn't had a flight! We got ours from Boots, just measure your calf to get the size, also move your legs, flex and rotate your ankles and drink lots of water. Get up and walk up and down the plane. I used to go into the loo and do bending and stretching .

I am paranoid about getting DVT, so I always drink plenty of water, take an aspirin and keep my legs and feet as mobile as possible during any flight. On longer flights, to the states or Canada, I get up to the loo and walk about at least 3 times. I may not bother with the flight socks for Spain as its not long and it will be so hot once we arrive. I will certainty do so next time we fly further afield however.
                    Thanks for the input everyone!

OH always wears them as he is on a x3 monthly Injection into his abdomen for prostate cancer, and has been told there is a risk of DVT, albeit a small one. I do wear them for long haul but not for anything under 3 hours.
